New Viper, love it or hate it? - G.Irish - 04-05-2012

The new Viper was unveiled yesterday at the NY Auto Show. Love it or hate it?

I think it looks sexier than before, but I don't know if that's a good thing. I feel like the Viper should be all monster phallous aggression, not curvaceous sexiness. One good thing though is that they improved the interior substantially while reducing weight and increasing stiffness by 50% (stiffer where, I don't know). Glad to see the Corvette ZR1 will have some company at least.

The racecar rolling out the floor and revving for a bit was a nice bonus. Great news for ALMS although I don't know how competitive they'll be off the bat.

Cannot express how much i LOVE it.
Viper GTS= why I got into cars in the first place- still have the blue/white stripe combo model car!
Dodge stepped up the game for this one- glad to see they are back in the alms as well

Dan I have an extra Viper Hot Wheels car that they gave out at the show, want it?

Too much like a cross between a C6 vette and an exotic car, and I've just never seen the viper as a supercar. I'm sure its a better car, but from the front views it just looks like a frog with its mouth open to me.

I'm betting it will look a lot better in person. I'm with you, I think it's the wrong type of look for a Viper.

AHHHH didn't get to the Javitz center this year- at JMU and not across the river at my home in NJ, bummed I coudln't get there. If you don't mind......YES i'd love to have one!

Re: New Viper, love it or hate it? - SlimKlim - 04-05-2012

Love everything except the face, but I don't strongly dislike it either.

Something about it just seems.... not quite aggressive enough and it reminds me of other cars. I can't put my finger on it, but it just doesn't quite seem right.

Its been growing on me since I first saw it yesterday, and I'm sure when I eventually see one in person I wont be able to criticize because my mouth will be hanging open. I love the absurdity of the viper, just in concept. I was lucky enough to baby a 2001 GTS around the block once, and I never saw anything close to 3k rpms, and the torque still left me awestruck. I'd love the opportunity to grab one by the scruff of the neck and try to tame it.

I love it. I always thought the last few gens of viper were too "squished" flat, this has some nice curves to it, and I'm really glad they returned to the (well it looks like IMHO) the second gen double bubble styling, which was superior.

Looks like they also spruced up the interior, so that's always nice.

Freaking love it. I would rock it even though it's made from Dodge Dart

Re: New Viper, love it or hate it? - Ken - 04-05-2012

Love it. I think it did a decent job of still keeping that Viper aggressiveness with some finer curves.

Re: New Viper, love it or hate it? - Sully - 04-05-2012

TL;DR but love it, think they made it look like a true supercar. somewhat italian but not too much and still has classic viper profile and essence

Interior is light years better than before. I wonder if the door sills will still burn your flesh.

Love everything about it

i think they nailed it. the gen1 was almost a cartoon caricature it was so swoopy whereas the gen2 almost got downright boring by comparison and lost some of the daring "f you, glass windows and ABS brakes?" spirit of the original concept. this one brings back the drama of the gen1 while still looking all business.

i really like some of the subtle things that just make it that much more hardcore, like the brake ducts integrated into the lower intake (with discreet Mopar crosshairs) and the return of the side pipes for the GTS. the way the taillights are laid into the carbon rear fascia is gorgeous too. and seriously, how badass is the new snake logo? some guys burned the midnight oil getting this one right.

I think 96k for the "luxury" GTS, less for an SRT obviously.

The side sills were fixed with the Gen 4 (2008 and above). So no worry about burning yourself on the side sills.

I believe car and driver cooked an egg on the door sill during their test of the older model

Aww maann. The griddle door sills were a feature not a flaw Sad

Re: New Viper, love it or hate it? - ScottyB - 04-06-2012

true story:

when i was in elementary school my best friend's dad worked for a local auction. brought one of the first brand new viper RT/10's (red of course) by our house after driving it pretty hard. my dad carefully got in after being warned about the sills, looked around, and went to get out and promptly burnt the shit out of his calf on the sill.
