Baltimore Grand Prix 2012-Gauging Interest - JPolen01 - 01-19-2012

As the Grand Prix is set to return to Baltimore, I wanted to see if there is any interest in getting a group together and heading up for the weekend to watch this. The date is is set for the weekend of September 2nd. Friday is practice while Saturday and Sunday have the real races. If you haven't seen the track or ever been to Baltimore, it's a 2 mile track that weaves through the inner harbor. Not sure when tickets go on sale (event isn't for months as stated earlier), but I am offering up my house, which is ten minutes outside of Baltimore, to any people interested in going. I figured we could start this thread with questions, ideas, whatever. I am definitely going this year because I didn't make it last year and from what I heard it was awesome. I'm interested in the 2 day pass for Saturday and Sunday. Who's up for a road trip?

Didn't this get canceled? I thought there was some major $$ problems

Re: Baltimore Grand Prix 2012-Gauging Interest - Apoc - 01-19-2012

The management company from last year's race collapsed. Baltimore is seeking bids from other companies to run this year's race.

Re: Baltimore Grand Prix 2012-Gauging Interest - JPolen01 - 01-19-2012

As stated above, there is some trouble with the management, but IndyCar remains committed to Baltimore. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/auto-racing/baltimore-grand-prix/bal-grand-prix-sked-20111222,0,1843948.story
Quote:he Baltimore Grand Prix will return to the Inner Harbor on Sept. 2, according to the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series schedule released today.

Despite financial woes, it appears IndyCar remains committed to Baltimore, one of the few East Coast races on the schedule.

Terry Angstadt, president of IndyCar's commercial division, told The Sun two weeks ago that his organization remains supportive of the event, even amid revelations that Baltimore Racing Development faces more than $12 million in debts.

Re: Baltimore Grand Prix 2012-Gauging Interest - Tyler.M - 01-25-2012

I'd be down. I watched it on ESPN last year and now I'm hooked on this whole ALMS thing. BTW, I heard tickets last year were astronomical, like several big ones. Anyone got an idea what it'd be like this year?

Cost me $55 for 2 days. Its not that bad. Its a cool event, maybe it wont be so damn crowded next year...and ill be getting a one day pass.

Yeah, I went up for one day and it wasn't bad at all. Maybe $30? Definitely worth it.

Yeah maybe for the pimpest of box seats with champagne and caviar it might be a few hundred. To get a decent grand stand seat you could pay less than $100 easily. I ended up with a general admission ticket for free but next year I'll pay for a grandstand seat. The problem with most street races is that there isn't much elevation change if any so it's hard to see much when you're at street level.

Of course you could always watch from one of the parking decks. Don't know anyone that got up there though.

I'm definitely in this year, 'specially cause we're within spitting distance anyway.

I had a general admission ticket and it was kinda lame. My saving grace was that Kristin's parents had grandstand tickets and snuck a few of us up with them. Next year I'll pay for the 'stands.

Re: Baltimore Grand Prix 2012-Gauging Interest - JPolen01 - 01-28-2012

I'll probably be doing the grand stands. Shelling out a few extra doll hairs for those seems worth it. 2 of my friends last year were given paddock tickets for free and they said it was awesome...now only if i can get my hands on some of those.

Re: Baltimore Grand Prix 2012-Gauging Interest - Cody - 01-30-2012

I want to somehow find my way into the paddock. Definitely down to go, appreciate you offering the casa for MMers. Anyone know somebody who knows somebody??

Re: Baltimore Grand Prix 2012-Gauging Interest - JPolen01 - 01-30-2012

Well, the event is on hold for now...
Quote:The Baltimore Grand Prix is finished, at least for the moment.

The City of Baltimore on Friday terminated its contract with the event's organizers, creating a situation where another promoter must step forward for IndyCar and the American Le Mans Series to return in 2012.

The event was held for the first time in September 2011, but the organizer, Baltimore Racing Development, failed to pay $1.5 million owed to the city by the end of the year. The city wants the event to continue because it delivered an economic impact estimated at $47 million following its 2011 debut.

http://www.autoweek.com/article/20111230/IRL/111239992

IndyCar still has Baltimore listed on the schedule and was quoted as saying "they will work with the city to identify a promoter to continue the event." Hopefully they figure this out soon. Will keep you guys posted.

Waiting on call out if you do not for bragging  Just kidding. I wish I knew people I could get tickets for free.

That said, I was already bored after one day of the BGP, probably didnt help that I was with the girlfriend.

This year, why dont we get a bunch of MMers together? I would gladly shuttle up a bunch of people from NOVA to there.
