Project: Rex-Cave - CaptainHenreh - 01-03-2012 So. I have this garage, right? I think you saw me Epoxy my floor, right? Well an epoxy floor does not a garage make! No sir! There are other requirements, even if the floor is totally baller: ![]() Anyway. It's got some problems. Problem #1: The walls are shit, and need paint. Problem #2: No storage. Like, none. Problem #3: No workspace. Problem #4: Shit lighting. I'm going to tackle all this problems, but not in that order. So, first up, lights. See, all this garage had is a pair of lonely bare incandescent bulbs: the fuck? :evileye: This just goes to illustrate that we are a wildly different breed. When I first saw these bulbs, my reaction was pretty much Gandalf screaming "THIS SHALL NOT PASS!" No sir. I need MOAR light. So, I shopped around a little, and bought some fluorescent fixtures. And when I say "some" I mean 8...for 50 bucks. Tested them all, they all had good ballasts AND bulbs. (Note: If anyone wants some of these fixtures, 10 bucks each and they are yours homey.) Anyway, step 1: Cut hole in ceiling: ![]() Step 2: Box in, install fixture. Step 3: Wire fixture with THESE AWESOME INVENTIONS: IDEAL In-Sure push-in wire connectors. Forget wire nuts, these things are TITS. Strip a little wire, push into hole, give a little tug to make sure it's secure and YOU ARE DONE. http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/IDEAL-Connector-5EKL3?cm_mmc=GoogleBase-_-Electrical-_-Wire%20Connectors-_-5EKL3&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=5EKL3 Step 4: Repeat Steps 1-3 until finished: ![]() ![]() Yeah baby! Funny story, after the ReXJ had it's little impromptu off road excursion today, I was coming down the ladder for lunch. And wouldn't you know the bottom of the ladder decided (much like my Jeep's rear end) to take a vacation from what I'd told it to do and I came crashing, tits of teakettle, to my baller garage floor. Then I had lunch, went back into the attic, and finished the last (of 4) fixtures. Next: paint. Re: Project: Rex-Cave - Kaan - 01-03-2012 did you bleed on the baller floor and make sure it doesnt stain? Chalk Board paint... i'm not sure how well it holds up, but its baller i am bringing tools this weekend if you want to measure up a nice starter-ish bench or get something like that going. Re: Project: Rex-Cave - Kaan - 01-03-2012 also, since you have a lot of light already, you could go a little darker with your normal wall color, but i wouldnt go too dark. I'd rather have a nice bright garage. Re: Project: Rex-Cave - D_Eclipse9916 - 01-03-2012 If you have more, I want them. I need some for my garage. Mine is an unfinished garage so its not pretty, so I like this thread for ideas on my garage! Re: Project: Rex-Cave - D_Eclipse9916 - 01-03-2012 If you have more, I want them. Mine is an unfinished garage so its not pretty, so I like this thread for ideas on my garage! I have a shitload of them. When I went to buy them the guy was like 'Yeah they are 15 bucks each but...I want them out of here." So I said 'How much for all of them?" He said something and I was like 'Yeah how about 50 bucks" so I loaded them all in the WRX: ![]() Lulz. Anyway, I tested them all, and they all have good ballasts and bulbs, but some of them have broken diffusers. (The plastic "covers") So, if you want some, just let me know. I think I bought 9, and I used 4, soooooooo... Re: Project: Rex-Cave - SlimKlim - 01-03-2012 Very nice. We're hoping to stumble across a townhouse with a 2 car garage for our next place to rent, and I'm thinking of doing a set of big floor to ceiling shelves and workbench to put up against the back wall. Something I could disassemble and bring with me when I move. Having a garage is loads better than going completely without, but our dark little 1 bay is pretty tough to navigate when its full of disassembled car and tools, definitely looking forward to having work space where I can leave things and pick them back up without having to roll up the sidewalks each time. Re: Project: Rex-Cave - BLINGMW - 01-03-2012 great deal! Those lights change the whole place FWIW if you think these are hot check out the WAGO lever (deeez?) nuts! Love these things
