Beginner sport bike suggestions - Scott - 12-10-2011 I have finally talked my wife into letting me get a bike (it was always I could if I sold the race car..). So, any suggestions for a sport bike for a 1st time rider? I've never been on a bike and I'm just starting to research them now. I;m just looking for something to take on back roads and I have no desire to track it. SV is pretty much The beginner bike. Not so big as to be hugely threatening. Not so small as to be boring on week three. Re: Beginner sport bike suggestions - Kaan - 12-12-2011 SV650 = miata of sport bikes. I personally require more HP and i cant stand the twin power curve... but they handle well and arent super agressive in the seating position. after riding the R6 daily for the last two years, almost everything else seems like a sport tourer. just watch the first generations. they had a gas tank/carb issue that would cause gas to come out and spray all over your crotch. Re: Beginner sport bike suggestions - SlimKlim - 12-12-2011 GS500 is the ultimate starter bike, they are small, light, and with about ~48hp they'll do 0-60 in about the time a quick car will (5.5ish), but it'll fall right on its face at about 80, so the interstate can be a little spooky. SV would be a little bigger, a little more powerful, and probably last you longer than a GS500. I never had a problem with mine, but the 2nd gen bikes are getting cheap enough that its not really worth looking into the older bikes - the newer ones dont have carbs.
