So I need a new TV... - HAULN-SS - 11-22-2011

So,

I was at best buy the other day, and I was comparing 3D TVs. Now, I'm not one to normally go for a 3D TV, but I was actually impressed by some LG they had set up there that didnt need active 3D glasses. I think this i the one:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.com/LG-Infinia-47LW5600-47-Inch-LED-LCD/dp/B004OOTRPC/ref=sr_1_3?s=tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1321987471&sr=1-3">http://www.amazon.com/LG-Infinia-47LW5600-47-Inch-LED-LCD/dp/B004OOTRPC/ref=sr_1_3?s=tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1321987471&sr=1-3</a><!-- m -->

And actually, compared to the active 3D samsung that was beside it, i thought the LG looked more 3D, and sharper than the samsung. Has anyone else done any 3D comparisons?

Also, it seems like on amazon this TV is 1099. Not a bad price. I think. I am looking for 46" - 55." for a grand or less. Has anyone seen it anywhere for cheaper, or any other deal I should be checking out, seeing as it is black friday week?

Re: So I need a new TV... - BLINGMW - 11-22-2011

well wait a second.... MY tv works with non-powered 3D glasses. Any TV does. Not sure what makes this TV any more "3D" than any 120hz TV. Well, other than the "2D to 3D conversion feature"... but come on, that can't be any good. There's plenty of good brand name LED 47" TVs out there (including LG), especially this week, for less than $800

Re: So I need a new TV... - HAULN-SS - 11-22-2011

What do you mean yours works with non-powered 3D glasses?Any TV? I'm saying this has a "3D display mode" that looks blurry as shit until you put the glasses on. I watched part of transformers 3D on it in best buy, and shit was popping out at me all over the place.

yeah, any LCD/plasma TV and cheap DVD player can play a movie like this (I mention it because it's the only 3D movie we happen to own):

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.com/Coraline-Jennifer-Saunders/dp/B003UAKE9Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321994230&sr=8-1">http://www.amazon.com/Coraline-Jennifer-Saunders/dp/B003UAKE9Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321994230&sr=8-1</a><!-- m -->

you put on the cheapo paper glasses that come with it, or maybe the plastic ones you stole from when you went to see Avatar would work, and away you go. Now an LED, 120hz TV will make it look better, (3D picture tends to be kind of dark on non-fancy TVs) but any TV can show it fine. And yes, it looks all screwed up, out of phase without the glasses.

Re: So I need a new TV... - .RJ - 11-22-2011

I think watching a 3D TV all the time would be really annoying.

I paid less than $800 for my 46" Samsung, FWIW.

Re: So I need a new TV... - HAULN-SS - 11-22-2011

I dont think the 3D is on all the time..you can watch perfectly fine in 2D mode. Channing are you basically saying that LG is pulling off some kind of gigantic marketing scam? How come I havent heard of this anywhere else?

Re: So I need a new TV... - HAULN-SS - 11-22-2011

I guess the reason I ask is because if you check this out:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=cat13504&type=page&pageIdentity=searchDriven&useProductString=true&productString=1218367938119*1218424515141&unProductString=1218368052715*1218310411939*1218429292775*1218310759402*1218310412070*1218424168444*1218310409085*1218310411024*1218310411734*1218310410751*1218322741994*1218424568978*1218328201454&catId=">http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=cat13504&type=page&pageIdentity=searchDriven&useProductString=true&productString=1218367938119*1218424515141&unProductString=1218368052715*1218310411939*1218429292775*1218310759402*1218310412070*1218424168444*1218310409085*1218310411024*1218310411734*1218310410751*1218322741994*1218424568978*1218328201454&catId=</a><!-- m -->

these are basically the same TV, though the non-3d one has a lot lower contrast (maybe thats the difference?), but its like 400$ cheaper. Not counting the blu ray player (lets say another 100), they are the same tv? if so, that seems like a retarded markup

maybe? It almost worked again!

Take a look at the 47LV5400, that's part of the "Infinia" series as well, probably more comparable to the "3D" model with gajillion:1 contrast.

Re: So I need a new TV... - TorinoCobra070 - 11-22-2011

Good timing, I'm looking for a TV too. I'm just going LED though, no 3D. I hate watching stuff in 3D.

Samsung seems to have a pretty big following for their HDTV's. I've heard good things about some cheaper brands like Vizio as well though. I am almost to the point that I'm so tired of researching them that I'll probably just go buy one that looks good on display lol.

Re: So I need a new TV... - .RJ - 11-22-2011

I used amazon reviews pretty heavily when shopping, even though I bought from Best Buy

Have 2 Vizios, they were cheaper when I bought them. Absolutely love both. The new Vizios are up there with any other manufacturer. But the prices of samsung/lg/sony have dropped so much you can't go wrong. My TVs are 47 & 37 LCD, but only 60hz, due to their age. I want to upgrade to a 55-60" LED, 240hz unit in the living room, love the picture on Samsungs.

Yeah, I love my Samsung.

Re: So I need a new TV... - Jake - 11-23-2011

My parents have a Samsung and it looks awesome. Bought it last year about this time, I think. I have a Sony Braaaaahhhhvia and like it just fine, too.

Re: So I need a new TV... - WRXtranceformed - 11-23-2011

Whatever you're looking at I would wait until Black Friday (*gasp*) or Cyber Monday. There are going to be some stupid deals out there on electronics.

Re: So I need a new TV... - Apoc - 11-23-2011

When I did my shopping for a mid-grade a few months ago, I found the Bravia to be best. I didn't want 3D, and I don't intend to use it, but the 2D was better than other models I compared. I used Amazon reviews almost exclusively.

Re: So I need a new TV... - Mike - 11-23-2011

i'm a samsung bitch and knew i wanted lcd. i measured my room, found an ideal size, and chose the class (quality) that fit my budget. done and done.

Or just find last year's model on amazon or store closeout for the same price.

Re: So I need a new TV... - Evan - 11-23-2011

backlit locally dimming LED made a big difference in image quality to me when i was shopping. I bought a 55" LG and am very happy with it.

my dad just bought one of the new Vizios with internet apps and they are pretty sweet.

and yeah, 3d is fucking stupid.

+1. have a few friends with it. annoys the shit out of me except for world cup... that was amazing. my guess is deersty will never watch "football," though.

Re: So I need a new TV... - Ken - 11-23-2011

Samsung is definitely a great choice. I got a 46" LED and it looks awesome. Great time to buy though, they are predicting that prices for a 32" weill be around $200 for the holiday season and 40-46" around $600.
