Re: Trackdaze October 1st/2nd - Sully - 09-15-2011

Car is le broken Confusedad: but otherwise I would defiantley want someone I know instructing me. I'm sure you get great feedback from most instructors but that one you know might be a little more comfortable with yelling at you or criticizing more than someone you don't know. Guess I won't know till I do it though :dunno:

broken? with what?

Re: Trackdaze October 1st/2nd - Jake - 09-15-2011

Well shit, that's JMU homecoming weekend. Probably doing that > TrackDaze, but definitely interested for another time. I need to save some cash as it is, so once funds open back up a little, this will be more appealing.

Re: Trackdaze October 1st/2nd - navin - 09-15-2011

Might sign up for 1 day if I can't do VIR... and if I can get my timing belt done on my car.

No air tools FTL!

Re: Trackdaze October 1st/2nd - D_Eclipse9916 - 09-15-2011

1 day? Why not both!

Re: Trackdaze October 1st/2nd - navin - 09-15-2011

Money doesn't grow on trees Wink

Sticking front left caliper, rear subframes bushings (have gotten worse since you drove it), check engine light from shot coil pack, no power steering(which don't need because racecar but still), original cooling system and fan at 160k(not huge but it is on the list also), front hub might be shot due to sticking caliper but not sure yet, grinding 3rd most of the time on downshift(clutch may just need a proper bleeding but then why only third from fourth and no other gear or may be the lower trans selector rod hitting flex disc, switched to dssr recently)...some other things I may have forgotten but you get the idea. You all may call me a pussy but I have no money and this is my daily, yea I don't really need it up here at school but I also would perfer not to destroy my most fuel effecient vehicle right now.

Joey may have a coil pack he could sell you for le cheap.

Re: Trackdaze October 1st/2nd - Sully - 09-15-2011

I'm pretty sure our cars use different ignition coils and that wouldn't get her ready for and type of event with everything else that's wrong. The entry fee would cost me all my money and leave none to get the car, so this one just simply won't work. I just like to post in new threads when I'm bored

Christ, couple hundred bucks worth of parts, and a few days of work. Understandable with those problems.......I would still do it...but understandable

It's the first half of that sentence that is the problem, considering for a lot of in-college-BMW-drivers, a $200 parts order represents a significant chunk of their bank account.

Re: Trackdaze October 1st/2nd - Sully - 09-15-2011

That pretty much represent all of my bank account and that would only fix the caliper unless I get lucky when I pull it apart. I'm hoping a rebuild will work and that my piston is not shot.

No one is hating, or if they are they have no right to be.

I'm in a similar position as you. I have a stock miata that needs race car parts, a BMW I can't afford to risk losing by putting on the track and very, very, very, little money because I'm at the bitch salary level reserved for fresh-outta-college employees.

I've just resigned myself to the fact that I've had to take this season off, save up some money, and put together my little miata so that next spring (when I'm hopefully pulling down a slightly better salary), I can be at the track all the time.

I just checked and you're right, 92-95 and 96-99 coils are different, but they are the same for Ms and non-Ms, you should be able to get one for about $20 on ebay. As for the caliper, if you think its doing damage you can get rebuild kits pretty cheap, might be worth doing soon depending on how affordable/dire it is.

Re: Trackdaze October 1st/2nd - Goodspeed - 09-15-2011

Hmmmmm. I've always been scurred of Shenandoah, but it'd probably be easier on my brakes than SP Main was  No "pay 20 dolla, skidpad your ass off" option?

I didnt mean to offend anyone at all. What I meant was I understand a couple hundred bucks and a few days of work. I understand budget limits, I was in college too!

For anyone thinking of doing a track car...BUY dont build. Its much cheaper and less headache. I knew this, but I still love the build process, and yes I do love mine, but man it could have been cheaper. Im almost 22k into mine including cost of car. You could buy a similiarly built one for 15-18k. Cars that win will typically command more, up to about 35K, but for most purposes............a $7.5K spec miatas all day long, $8K Spec E30s all day long, GTS2 E36 M3s $15-18K all day long.

Re: Trackdaze October 1st/2nd - D_Eclipse9916 - 09-15-2011

BTW pretty much anything on the bmw ive been through it and have the tools. Send me your caliper with the rebuild kit (8 bucks from rockauto). Ill take care of it. Cooling system, let me know, I got a new expansion tank, fairly new radiator, brand new hoses I would sell. I also deleted my mechanical fan, and wired my secondary fan to come on at a lower temperature and have never had a problem. I can help you with that as well.

As for the subframe, I have an extra one if you buy the new bushings ill pop out the old ones and pop in the new ones on my press for free (or a few beers Wink ) . Anything to get a fellow MMer running.

Re: Trackdaze October 1st/2nd - Sully - 09-15-2011

I tihnk I can get away with my ignition coil as it only acts up half the time. I am planning on replacing the set eventually with new boots and everything so we will see about that. The BAV auto ones are a pretty red color  Just kidding, not really though. The caliper rebuild is really cheap and I am tihnking of ordering four of em and do all my calipers but its really just a time thing. Compressed air will make it so much easier and I don't have any tools with me. I might have to make a trip to rex's but I would also rather do it at home just becasue I like to take my time and dick around while doing it. I would also need some brake fluid which isn't a problem but I would like to get a power bleeder also, to get my clutch bled properly. I'm sure it can be done with two people but usually at home, I'm alone Confusedad: (insert forever alone meme) Definatley wouldn't be a bad addition to my specialized tools. Maybe someone has a strong opinion against them but :dunno: Almost got one of my douchy friends to buy me one when his parents bought him a G35 and he wanted me to paint his calipers. (yea he wasn't capable himself) Told him the only way i'd do it was to remove the calipers from the car.

Either way, now that i have completley hi-jacked this thread
