Holy hell I hate new cars - HAULN-SS - 07-30-2011

So it is apparently a 3 hour fucking job to replace a headlamp bulb. Can this possibly be right? Just about makes me want to trade the fucking car in...

I'm sorry, but thats fucking hilarious. Step one, remove front clip......an Audi engineer must have come over to GM.

People said the same thing about my girlfriend's Mazda 3. I love the internet.

Until you look at the car and confirm you cannot pull the bulbs without removing the front bumper, I'm going to say that you can. My mom and girlfriend's cars are really tight, but if you move a couple plastic pieces out of the way you can reach in there, pull the tab, and get the bulb out.

I ws going to do it saturday morning but didnt have time. If I get to it tonight, i will confirm/deny the statements from that other forum. It's really looking to be a bitch though, at first glance

Re: Holy hell I hate new cars - Evan - 08-03-2011

sounds like a justification for charging a rediculous multi-hour 'book rate'

Re: Holy hell I hate new cars - HAULN-SS - 08-06-2011

It is confirmed..this is a pain in the dick job. I'm in progress right now, car is in the air, and one wheel is off.

Changing the passenger side light on my girlfriend's RSX means removing the power steering pump resevoir. What a shitty design.

Wow.

And to think I bitch 'n' moan about the BMW lightbulbs having these little twist-in connectors that I can never get right on the first try.

BMWs ftw

She shouldn't be driving in the first place, let alone enough to burn out a headlight. You need to send her back to the kitchen to make sammiches.

Jesus.

My grandma's Lexus ES3somethingorother had a headlight out when we were visiting for Christmas. Being the good grandson that I am, I figured I'd pop on down to Advance Auto and fix it right quick.

Yeah, no. The HID's (which, since she got the Baller Gold Luxo Package Edition, are on her car) have a replacement process similar to the Malibu. I said fuggit (when it's 90 degrees in December, motivation is lacking) and she took it to Le Dealership.

I miss the days of Miata-style bulb replacement. Four screws, remove light, replace.

Re: Holy hell I hate new cars - ViPER1313 - 08-10-2011

Eh, not all new cars are bad. Stephanie's 2008 Corolla is a simple twist and release for all the bulbs w/ plenty of space to work with, and the Grand Prix's entire headlight assembly comes out with one bolt :dunno: However, my mom's 2004 Mazda 6 requires **very** nimble fingers and the removal of the radiator fill tank to replace both bulbs. The manual says to take it to a dealer and the service procedure says to remove the bumper, but it can be done with the lights in the car...

If anything I blame EPA regulations for things like this - all the panel gaps have to be close to non-existent to get those good MPGs.
