Title Promotion w/o Raise or Bonus - happened to anyone here - navin - 07-18-2011 Just wondering..? Don't know if I should be upset that I got a title promotion w/no raise or bonus. Maybe i can score some new business cards with my fancy title :twirls finger: Re: Title Promotion w/o Raise or Bonus - happened to anyone - HAULN-SS - 07-18-2011 Is it anything meaningful? What was the the before and after title? Re: Title Promotion w/o Raise or Bonus - happened to anyone - D_Eclipse9916 - 07-18-2011 The problem with titles is what does that entail? Many companies have "levels", and each level is a new title. Or is this your "work title" such as mine Business/Financial Specialist that has no fucking bearing on anything and they just changed it? Re: Title Promotion w/o Raise or Bonus - happened to anyone - Kaan - 07-18-2011 I just got hosed by "this." The government requested i get moved up from one position to another. The government wants to keep me around and realizes money does that. they will allow my company to bill more money (for the new position) and want my company to pass this along to help retain me. while i did get a "raise" it wasnt much and i'm not making fair market value for my new position. well, my company thinks I am, but they also cant hire anyone with the salaries they are attempting to offer people these days. they are able to bill 45% more for me in my new position and I got a 5% raise. ![]() I'm basically just setting myself up for the next contract change. I know the government will want the new company to retain me, my current company has no chance at winning (they cant fill the spots on the contract and i'm carrying the team)... so the "new" company will offer more money, probably a lot more. Re: Title Promotion w/o Raise or Bonus - happened to anyone - navin - 07-18-2011 ^^^ Kind of the situation I am in. I'm thinking it has to do with bill rates/etc. My company is a 5 level "ladder" - I'm on step 3 (started at bottom). Basically with my new title I am required to do more business development work, along with client work. My company is decent with year end bonus', but starting fresh out of college I was getting underpaid for the work I was doing. I managed a raise by them finding my resume online, which brought it up to something reasonable. This was kind of a general question - I'm not sure if I should feel insulted about no raise/bonus, but just some stupid title. Oh yea, before title was : Senior Analyst, new title: Consultant. Pretty standard BS consulting titles. Re: Title Promotion w/o Raise or Bonus - happened to anyone - HAULN-SS - 07-18-2011 What kind of consulting or analyst work are you doing? My first instinct is to say move on. I dont know what your definition of "reasonable" is, but it's likely you can add 20% to it by switching. Sounds like you're at like 5+ years experience, which is kind of a sweet spot for looking around again. Re: Title Promotion w/o Raise or Bonus - happened to anyone - navin - 07-18-2011 IT Security Consulting (shocker). The thing about moving on is trying to find another job doing what I do here (application security). I'm at about 3 years, and def. need to get some more certifications before making the change. Actually, I had a phone screen with b00z the same day I was told about my promotion. Phone screen went kind of shitty since I've been sick all week ![]() Re: Title Promotion w/o Raise or Bonus - happened to anyone - HAULN-SS - 07-18-2011 Side Note:I have had bad experiences with booz's recruiting type people myself anyway. Got yanked around a lot, and got 2 job offers, but they never could quite come up with concrete figures for what those job offers might be, for what contract, or what i'd be doing exactly. Think they might be turning into a body shop.... Re: Title Promotion w/o Raise or Bonus - happened to anyone - D_Eclipse9916 - 07-18-2011 Ahhh, Are you guys both using MOBIS Labor Categories? This is where your understanding the positioon differently. I can explain it to you guys if youd like, as it has nothing to do with you at all. Its simply the governments contract rates for experience/years/degrees. They slightly mod the contract to allow a higher labor category, but this technically (to the government) has no standing on your salary. This is also something contract management does (this is what I do), to increase their contribution margin and gross profit, if the government allows them to do it. We swap labor categories all the time with no raises, this has nothing to do with your "level" though. However, if they put additional responbilities on you, I would use this as large leverage to expand your portfolio and request a "salary adjustment for your position". However no raise is to be expected. Re: Title Promotion w/o Raise or Bonus - happened to anyone - HAULN-SS - 07-18-2011 You didnt say - was this outside of your normal merit cycle, or did they do this as part of your yearly eval or whatever? Thats something the company should "help" you with. If they specifically asked for the mod to increase your labor category rates, this was an attempt to help your company retain you, (in which case you should be getting more money). However, if it was just a change of labor categories that were already available, it was not the government requesting, it was contract management. Its a RARE day indeed if the govt. specifically asked for you as a person to get increased, nice job  Re: Title Promotion w/o Raise or Bonus - happened to anyone - navin - 07-18-2011 HAULN-SS Wrote:You didnt say - was this outside of your normal merit cycle, or did they do this as part of your yearly eval or whatever? Outside of normal merit cycle: I think me and one other person received mid-year promos. No review was even done. Welp just wanted to see if this was common with other people. Re: Title Promotion w/o Raise or Bonus - happened to anyone - .RJ - 07-18-2011 I had this happen last year - I have some thoughts on this, but running around doing 9000 things right now. I'll summarize. -Ask for raise and title change -Bitch for 2 months 'cause they blow you off -Decide you're going to leave after you get an answer -Get pissed off at the 5% they do give you -Decide "eh, it's fine" and do nothing Re: Title Promotion w/o Raise or Bonus - happened to anyone - .RJ - 07-18-2011 So fucking salty. I was going to post more about how I'd do it different if it came up again. Re: Title Promotion w/o Raise or Bonus - happened to anyone - Apoc - 07-18-2011 .RJ Wrote:So fucking salty.
