Check this out! 3D printing - premiershine9 - 07-17-2011 Simply amazing, think of the stuff you could print......... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZboxMsSz5Aw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7h09dTVkdw&feature=related Re: Check this out! 3D printing - Jeff - 07-17-2011 JMU has a 3D printing lab I think. Re: Check this out! 3D printing - JustinG - 07-18-2011 yes they do, in ISAT, we went there for a business class or two. Rapid prototyping machine, when I was still in there, only VT and us had one in the state. Re: Check this out! 3D printing - Ken - 07-18-2011 ^yup, it's pretty cool. I have a wrench that was made from there. pretty cool. Re: Check this out! 3D printing - HAULN-SS - 07-18-2011 My dad's machine company has had those for quite a few years to do prototyping..I'm not sure it's *that* new of an idea? Re: Check this out! 3D printing - JustinG - 07-18-2011 no its not "new", considering it was my junior year so, 06-07 that the university had one, and we had it for a year or so. It was just "up and coming" at the time based on the materials it could use. Supposedly going to have laser printer sized ones Re: Check this out! 3D printing - Kaan - 07-18-2011 it cant be that bad ass, my old roommate had one set up in the kitchen. It's that prices have come down enough for it to be accessible to the average person. Kind of like how computers have been around since the 50's, but they didn't become accessible to consumers until the 80's. Now 3D printing is getting cheap enough that it's creating all kinds of opportunities for people who want to build stuff. Re: Check this out! 3D printing - Cody - 07-18-2011 3D printing is pretty cool I heard about it a couple years ago at JMU from a business professor, some kids found a way to use it for profit a while back. It would be cool if we have some engineers in the club create some cool MM stuff on CAD with their freetime. |
