I am looking for a 46MM socket, 1/2 inch drive. This usually seems stupid, but everyone wants $42-$60 for this damn socket. I figure I could maybe halve that with someone here that maybe doesnt need the tool anymore...

Yeah problem is this is going in my toolbox permanently so I can change front hubs at the track. I was lucky someone had one at the track during Hyperfest or I would have been screwed. Almost cost me the entire weekend including contingency.

I got my 3/4 breaker from HF for $10 or something. I use a 3/4 to 1/2 converter for torquing. HF might have 48s in stock too, check their site.

Hmm, $23 shipped + breaker = $33-40?. Might as well just buy the expensive socket that works with drivers you own. Move along then, nothing to see here.

Yeah I did think of getting a 3/4 converter, but then it costs about the same and might as well just get the socket. *sigh*

Yeah I ended up breaking a stud while tightening my lugs down (torque wrench) on the left front hub, so I got a used hub from a friend (thanks Mike!) and found a set of studs from a friend and put it all on. Went back out and got ONE-HALF session in before the driver side front hub threw another stud. I literally was driving through the finish line going "dear god please hold on". :lol: Was enough for free tires and the win though :thumbup:

Shame as the studs were only 2 years old, I went to bimmerworld this time who races on the ones they sell, and got the nice ones, but it was still probably time. I also ordered new nuts and 2 new hubs, that way ill have 2 spare hubs, and about 15 spare studs.

Now that my "races" are counting for more than just fun I need to build up my spares box. Got tons of extra light bulbs, coolant hoses, coolant, oil, brake fluid, brake lines, brake pads, diff/trans fluid, that I bring already. And then have a bunch of spares at home such as power steering pump, reservoir, radiator, tie rods, water pump, thermo housing and couple of odd items.

So ill pick up the hubs and probably some rear wheel bearings and the tools. I also need to order some caliper rebuild kits to keep on hand as well.

Knowing me, if I have the part it wont break, something else will :lol: (knock on wood my car's been pretty damn reliable).

I learned my lesson with the DSM, I dont let anyone touch it. I expected the studs to last the whole season...damn. The only people that have touched the BMW is Carlos, who is building my cage, not exactly something I could do correctly.

Despite that it may break after 2 NASA events MM can always McGyver some stuff for cheap right????!? Otherwise what's good at JMU right?? Feed us and we'll accomplish w/e

Your posts make my head hurt.

As for the 46MM socket, I ordered a 20 buck one with a 3/4 to 1/2 for 7 bucks. $27 bucks is almost half the price of the $52 socket that has 1/2 drive 46mm socket. Then, NorthernTool sent me the ad, invoice, and magazine....and forgot to send the socket...lol. They said another one is on the way.
