Shop Rig - 2007 Jeep Wrangler X - Jeff - 04-16-2011

I think I might hold the dubious honor of having the most project threads...

We decided that the dealership needs a trail rig Jeep to display and market Mopar Performance and genuine accessories for Wrangler. So I (after coming up with this idea) volunteered to take on the project and sell my Dakota to run this around and make sure people see it.

So anyway, the rig in question is a 2007 Wrangler X. Options are as follows.
2 Door Wrangler Sport X "B Package"
Rescue Green with grey interior and black soft top
Half steel doors
3.8L V6 w/ 6-speed Manual trans
3.21 ratio Dana 44 rear and 30 front with rear Trac-Lok diff
16X7in steel wheels w/29in tires
6 disc CD w/ sat radio

Sorry for the bad pics. Its raining out today.

Basically your basic Wrangler. Its nice that it has the better radio and the steel half doors are sorta rare on a JK; they are the same price as full doors now so no one wants to option them except people who plan to wheel. The idea here is to install Mopar accessories on it that people around here might actually have interest in buying. So that forced me to step back and say things like "Are people more likely to buy rock rails for $700 or a set of step bars for $315?" Just to put in perspective some of the decisions that might go into the selection of parts. We also are looking into a few aftermarket companies that offer items not available from Mopar to augment the OEM accessory offerings. If dealer agreements are made I will post it up.

Items installed that were in stock:
- OEM style step bars (std. on Sahara optional on X)
- Mirror relocation kit (A pillar mounts)

Items ordered
- Front Rock bumper w/ winch mount, D-rings, and guard (OEM fog lamp holes/hook mounts)
- Front bumper winch delete plate
- Rear Rock bumper w/ tire carrier provision, D-rings
- HD Steel skid / air dam for steering box and sway bar mounts
- OEM style 2in hitch
- 4 pin wiring kit for hitch
- 2in full spring lift kit with hydro shocks
- 33in Kelly Safari TSR Mud tires on Cragar Soft 8 steel wheels
- Rubber all over floor mat
- Jeep "Oh Jesus" handles
- Black tail lamp guards

I will post some pics of the gear as it comes in and the process of install it all. Might make for a neat little project thread. Also, don't think I won't do some neat little custom things while I am at it. You can sell that sort of work to if you are good at it.

Re: Shop Rig - 2007 Jeep Wrangler X - ScottyB - 04-18-2011

white lettering on the green would look BA

considering how much you turned the old XJ around i'm hoping this turns out to be similarly kickass

Re: Shop Rig - 2007 Jeep Wrangler X - andrew_j - 04-19-2011

White letters out. I think that looks so good on 4x4's.

Re: Shop Rig - 2007 Jeep Wrangler X - JPolen01 - 04-19-2011

white letters to the outside. the blue looks awful.

The blue is a protective coating on the white during manufacturing. It wears off in no time.

3.21's for the fail... I would rather have done 35's and I will have the lift for it but the thing would be such a fucking turd with them. 33's I think will look nice.

Rear bumper, hitch, and tail lamp guards came in. Turns out the bumper I ordered is more then just "drilled for tire carrier" as the book says. It is like, ready for tire carrier and will look dumb if you don't have one. So rather then return it, I just ordered the carrier! Moar pics to come.

Oh, and for reference. This is the rim, I don't know if that changes anyone's mind about the letters. The cap will not be chrome it will be black.

No white letters. Just my opinion.

Re: Shop Rig - 2007 Jeep Wrangler X - PDenbigh - 04-19-2011

White letters out, this is a rolling advertisement, right?

woops. I have only seen truck tires mounted once and the guy mounting them said blue side always goes in? He was a redneck so....

2.5 inches for a JK to run 35s... i'm sure mopar has some parts laying around. rolling advertisements need lifts and the biggest tires you can flash homie.

Re: Shop Rig - 2007 Jeep Wrangler X - Jeff - 04-20-2011

I know I CAN run 35's with my lift I am worried about my gears. Swapping out gears is a bit of a job in a Dana and I have only set one up once so I would need some help to make sure I didn't screw it up. 33's are the safe bet for me now.

33's with a 2in bb here. NO RUBBING. That is important to most customers. 35's will rub at 2in unless you trim.

In about 5 mins of looking I have seen hundreds of JK's. I could not find a single picture of a JK with a 2in lift or bb and 35's. Everyone either does not say (but looks huge) or says they have at least a 4in. I know you can run them on a 2 but it looks low, sorta like 33's look on a stock JK. I know you want your rolling advertisement to be HUGE and have all the best stuff on it or whatever, but the guys who want that look are going to look to the aftermarket. I am going after a demographic that will actually buy performance stuff from the dealer and that demographic tends to be more conservative, hence the steps rather then the rock rails. Heck if I discover people are liking it but saying they want bigger....I will toss the 33's and the lift on a different JK and go 4in and 35's on the display truck.

Re: Shop Rig - 2007 Jeep Wrangler X - CaptainHenreh - 04-20-2011

Where does the Ma Deuce mount go?

Re: Shop Rig - 2007 Jeep Wrangler X - Kaan - 04-20-2011

better get good at doing gears anyway Wink it will be good for the boys i the shop to practice

rumor is... in VA... 2 inches of suspension, one inch on the body, and some 33s will get you around 99.9% of the trails

off to find the MOPAR cat and start posting parts you need Wink

Re: Shop Rig - 2007 Jeep Wrangler X - Kaan - 04-20-2011

dont forget to flex out infront of the garage... Smile

where are the "Mopar Factory" and "Woodstock Garage" stickers?

Re: Shop Rig - 2007 Jeep Wrangler X - Jeff - 04-21-2011

Ok, well most everything came in so over the past two days I managed to get the stuff on. We already have someone hot on the thing so I might not even get to drive it!

I got a daylight pic of the starting point here.

Hitch and tail lamp guards went on first.

Next was the badass floor mat. I love the look this thing gave the interior. Note the "Jeep" logos on either side of the trans hump, also my flashlight mount, I am pretty proud of how that turned out.

We decided to go white letters out...

I mounted my hi-lift to the tire carrier and mounted the tire over top of it. Turned out sick.

I had HAD IT by the time we got working on the front bumper (it was really to much to do in an afternoon) so I stopped taking pics. Here is the finished product sans lift. So I have the lift and the HD front skid left to do. I <3 Winch.

Did I mention I <3 Winch?

@Kaan - This one is for you! Its the only place it says it for now...and its says "Woodstock Garage" on the back...sorta smallish. lol. The decals will go on if this guy that is looking at it decideds not to buy it. I am all about selling it, then I get to do another one! It will be Project JK #2.
