Project: Haters Gon Hate - JPolen01 - 04-10-2011 My name is Jon for those who don't know me and this will be my first thread on the MM forum, as well as my first project. Before I get into anything, I want to give warning to those who are let's say less open minded. This thread will not be for the faint of heart, for those who are about function > form, or for any BMW m3 owners. This car will be my daily for at least the length of my college years and I have decided it is time to do something unique to my car as well as unique to Madison Motorsports. Who would have though a Honda would be unique in MM? Now that I have said that, I don my flame suit ![]() My daily driver, a 2000 Honda Accord Lx sedan, will be making its way into the "stance" community within the next few months. I have stockpiled all of the parts I need for my build at my house and I am just waiting until school is finished to return home (Maryland) to work on the car. The car sits as high as a monster truck and I plan to change this drastically. As of now the only mods to the car are 15% tint all the way around except windshield, Polk Audio 6x9s in the rear and 6.5s in the front. Stock head unit for now, as my Kenwood flip out unit broke last summer. ![]() It will be lowered extremely on Function and Form Type II coilovers. These are fully adjustable with 32 way adjustable dampening. The car should ride very smooth because of this. ![]() As if building a 2000 Accord wasn't different enough for me, I decided to go an abnormal way with my wheel choice as well. Instead of following my JDM roots, I decided to go with some European flair. You BMW owners may like this or hate it. I don't care. The wheels will be unveiled when the car is done. For now here is a teaser. Specs are 17x8.5 +20mm offset all the way around with a 3 inch stepped lip. Should be "hellaflush" for all you haters. ![]() Being new to buying tires, it took me a while to decide on what I was going to by, as well as the size of tire. I decided to go with Falken because of their sidewall strength. I found that many people have stretched these tires with great success. I will only be running a slight stretch, but still wanted something that was going to hold up. I purchased a set of 205 45 17 Falken 912s from discount tire direct. They arrived at my house within the week even though they were on backorder! ![]() Like many of you, I am not a fan of obscene amounts of camber. I purchased an ebay camber kit so that I can get a custom alignment after lowering the car. The alignment, fender rolling, and tire mounting and balancing will be done at Revision Auto Salon in Rockville, MD. ![]() Before the hail of negative comments comes...No I don't and have no desire to autocross/track this car. Function > form is not a priority for this car. My only goal with this build is to create something unique that turns heads where ever I go. Future Mods: Remove tint from tail lights (Don't know why I thought this was cool when I was 14) OEM window rain visors Clear Headlights Retrofit HIDs into stock housings Wings West Lip Kit (front, rear, sides) 2 12" subs/amp This will be updated as I begin to work on the car (tentatively around May 8th) Re: Project: Haters Gon Hate - Jake - 04-11-2011 Ya know, the whole "stanced" low&slow idea isn't my thing, but I applaud you for having a clear objective (nice-looking DD) and taking the time to do it right. At least I think you're doing it right, I have no idea about brands of stuff. Interested to see how the rimzz turn out. I'll play the guessing game and go with BBS Style 5's: ![]() So once you get this all sorted out, what are you buying for a track toy? ![]() Re: Project: Haters Gon Hate - JustinG - 04-11-2011 JPolen01 Wrote:Should be "HERRAFRUSH" for all you haters. ftfy Re: Project: Haters Gon Hate - BLINGMW - 04-11-2011 Jake Wrote:Ya know, the whole "stanced" low&slow idea isn't my thing, but I applaud you for having a clear objective (nice-looking DD) and taking the time to do it right.ditto. That being said, more than my fair share of BMWs have been lower than I wanted. The only thing I can say is that it sucks DDing a car whose oilpan and framerails are 4 inches off the ground. Good luck to you, I hope you enjoy it! (but you'll get tired of it some day) Re: Project: Haters Gon Hate - Goodspeed - 04-11-2011 One of these things is not like the other  JPolen01 Wrote:It will be lowered extremely JPolen01 Wrote:I will only be running a slight stretch JPolen01 Wrote:Should be "hellaflush" JPolen01 Wrote:My daily driver....The car should ride very smooth Re: Project: Haters Gon Hate - D_Eclipse9916 - 04-11-2011 "Hate" Re: Project: Haters Gon Hate - JPolen01 - 04-11-2011 For as low as the car will be of course I will feel bumps more than the average car, but from the research I have done and other cars I have rode in with Function and Form Type IIs they ride surprisingly smooth. Re: Project: Haters Gon Hate - BLINGMW - 04-11-2011 Not a comment on your project really, I just saw this as a sig today and found it funny: ![]() Re: Project: Haters Gon Hate - ScottyB - 04-11-2011 you may want to look into someone who can fab a skidpan for you. in all seriousness if you're going to dump it that low, you run a high risk of tearing your oil pan off, among other things. cheap insurance. Have put some serious thought into a skidplate depending on how low I really decide to go. May be buying a skidplate off one of my VW friends that just switched from a static drop to air ride and rigging that up to fit. That should make for an interesting project. Re: Project: Haters Gon Hate - JPolen01 - 04-20-2011 Forgot to mention that the wheels I am running were custom drilled for my lug pattern (4x114.3). To my knowledge I will be one of the few (possibly 3 or less) Hondas running this particular wheel as well as the only Accord  Re: Project: Haters Gon Hate - xvxax - 04-20-2011 Are those BBS RS replicas? ESM es002 maybe? Meshy, stepped lip, bolted centers, 17x8.5 et20, 4x100 are an option. Re: Project: Haters Gon Hate - JPolen01 - 04-20-2011 xvxax Wrote:Are those BBS RS replicas? ESM es002 maybe? Meshy, stepped lip, bolted centers, 17x8.5 et20, 4x100 are an option. Damn you know your wheels. How the hell did you figure that out? You were almost spot on with the guess. They are ESM 002R. Not many people outside the Vdub community are familiar with ESM. Now that the cats out of the bag :x I'll go ahead and post up a picture. ![]() ESM 002R 17x8.5 +20mm Re: Project: Haters Gon Hate - Jake - 04-20-2011 Nice. They look like Style 5's. Are you/can you take that pinstripe off the car? It's a personal preference but I have a strong dislike of pinstripes. The Miata one was vinyl tape and (with elbow grease) came off nicely. The BMW's is painted on so I have to live with it ![]() Re: Project: Haters Gon Hate - JPolen01 - 04-21-2011 Jake Wrote:Nice. They look like Style 5's. I am with you on the pinstripe for sure. Back in 1999 the pinstripe was the shiznit believe it or not. My dad even got it thrown in for free! The car has been garaged all of its life minus the past year and half-2 years. I was worried if I took it off, there would be marks from where the paint has "burned" around the stripe. What do you think? I don't know if it is vinyl or not. Could be a simple couple hour task to get it off or a PITA. Re: Project: Haters Gon Hate - HAULN-SS - 04-21-2011 Vynyl is really only a pain int he ass to get off laquer paints. I doubt a car that new has that, so it should come off no problem Re: Project: Haters Gon Hate - Jake - 04-21-2011 I took the Miata's vinyl stripe off at home. It was original from late 1994, I'm sure. There is very, very minimal "ghosting" if the car is freshly washed and the sun catches the fender at justttt the right angle. I think a good polish would help eliminate that (Dan, are you listening? ![]() I borrowed my mom's hair dryer, and heated it up about 6-8 inches at a time. Got an old gift card and started picking at it. It peeled off okay, but was really dried out from being so old, so it "flaked" more than peeled I suppose. Once you get the vinyl off, use Goo Gone to remove the glue residue. Then give it a good wash/wax so you can't see where you used the Goo Gone. It's definitely a "process" and not a quick thing to do. I think I put about 6 or 7 hours into removing the Miata one. However, it looks SO much better now, and you can't tell that it was ever there 99.9% of the time. Worth the effort. Re: Project: Haters Gon Hate - ViPER1313 - 04-21-2011 Or, if you don't want to spend 7 hours, go buy a pin stripe removal wheel (basically a huge pencil eraser) for your drill - about $20. I took the stripes off my red SHO in under an hour, not a hard job. Work smart, not hard  Re: Project: Haters Gon Hate - JPolen01 - 04-21-2011 Thanks for the tip on the drill attachment. I am definitely going to look into that. Re: Project: Haters Gon Hate - Jeff - 04-21-2011 JPolen01 Wrote:Thanks for the tip on the drill attachment. I am definitely going to look into that. We have one here, works so fast,. Don't even have to peel it first takes the stripe and all the goo. I have a skid plate....but its for rocks, tree stumps, and Hellaflush Hondas  Also, I have a set of MTX 5500 subs in a Sledge Hammer box and a MTX Elite 600w mono block I am looking to sell. They might work well for this car, I see you want 12's but these 10's HAMMER. I have a Pioneer Premier deck with a XM box as well and I could work you a package deal including installation if you are interested. PM me. |
