How many on Facebook vs. Twitter? - G.Irish - 03-22-2011

I've been pondering my business social media strategy and one conclusion I'm coming to is that not many people who are into cars, bikes and motorsport are on Twitter yet. I suppose that could be a great opportunity in one way, or it could simply be a waste of effort.

How many people here use Twitter, and if so, do they follow automotive/motosport people on there? Have you joined any Facebook fan pages for anything automotive-related.

I use Facebook and Twitter quite a bit, and I follow/interact with motorsport (mostly MotoGP) personalities and businesses via both mediums.

My favorite MotoGP twitter accounts are @tobymoody, @motomatters (David Emmet), and @twitgp (hilarious).

I don't use Twitter, but FB and Twitter are great ways to promote your business. Stick with it, any brand awareness you can promote especially at this stage of your business is good.

i use facebook for myself and my business and twitter for my business. i'm not really a big twitter user though, since most of the content i post is in the form of images, and i think the format makes it easier to interact with people who are interested. i don't feel like it takes much time to keep it updated so i like it. i think twitter is suited well to sending frequent, small bites of info especially for blogs.

i rarely make the effort to "follow" anything on twitter, but for what its worth i follow SpeedSportLife, GriotsGarage, Getfast, Jalopnik, and Autotunr.com

from what i've learned, its best to pick one social media tool or another, and focus on that 1 thing.

Hmm, now that I think about it, I think that most people that are into cars and bikes probably use forums to interact with other enthusiasts way more than stuff like Facebook and Twitter. I might have to do another thread to see what forums people are on (although I have a good idea).

I use Twitter (mostly to consume) and don't follow any automotive stuff.

I follow a bunch of automotive/sports on Fb.

We use Fb for 944 Cup and I'm surprised at A) how many people who have no exposure follow us and B) how much interaction we get from our racers.

I think you'd be missing out on a pretty big free marketing outlet to not use them both. Just use an app that posts to both and you don't have to worry about posting in a bunch of different places. If you have to pick one, go Fb.

I use both. Each one is obviously very different, but very effective way of getting stuff out there. Does seem like drivers at least from nascar prefer to use twitter, I guess because it is quicker and easier on the go, but I enjoy it because I get information quickly when I'm not watching the race.
