Circuitcross? - ScottyB - 03-15-2011

I was looking into trying one of these this year. the only midatlantic event i can see was Feb. 18-20 @ VIR.

anybody know if others are scheduled this year, but aren't posted to NASA's site? i'll be bummed if i missed the only one this year Sad

Re: Circuitcross? - Goodspeed - 03-15-2011

I've always wanted to do one of these - its usually the first thing I look for when the schedules are released. Unfortunately it seems that they hardly ever do them, I guess b/c of profitability reasons.

Re: Circuitcross? - Jake - 03-15-2011

Yeah, from what I know they are not doing another one. Maybe in the fall?

Jon Felton would be the one to ask, I believe.

Re: Circuitcross? - CaptainHenreh - 03-15-2011

I've been waiting for the next one.

I'll go ask felton on facebook.

Re: Circuitcross? - CaptainHenreh - 03-15-2011

Felton says October.

Dammit. Sad

Re: Circuitcross? - DLingenfelter - 03-16-2011

I've done two of those (first thing I did when i installed the rollbar) and it's pretty fun. You get TONS of runs too, I think I got 9-12 or something like that. Tricky too because you have no real idea what times your running because there is no display or timing board. The idea is to keep you from getting "Red Mist" and making a high speed mistake while chasing that last tenth. I recommend it.

Re: Circuitcross? - D_Eclipse9916 - 03-16-2011

I liked it, just it sucks that it occurs while during a regular NASA event. I like how I can run a simultaneous NASA TT championship chase, while doing a NASA-X championship chase. If it was worth regular points I wouldnt mind missing much, but its worth double points.

It IS a lot of fun but gets rid of the "this course is new to everyone" leveling that autocross typically has. And why I think ill still autocross for years and years to come. Been 7 years since I started autocrossing and I still try to make every event I can.

Re: Circuitcross? - ScottyB - 03-16-2011

yeah, you're in a jam with the events you're tied up in. i don't think many people are as ambitious in racing as you though

i agree its a downfall that the course isn't new to everyone, but the flip side is that once you know the line, you can refine it indefinitely because it won't change. do it often enough and the playing field plateaus again.

the main appeal for me is that i'm stuck in between autocross and track days. i can't devote the time, funds, and/or disposable car for track days, and i can't justify driving to a parking lot for 4, 50 second runs over the course of a day with a car that's grossly uncompetitive anyway. a circuitcross is exactly the kind of racing experience to fit my position. bonus for me is that when i'm done i can sit around and watch race cars on the main track.

Yup. Decided not to even bother with Feb due to weather. Patriot course was booked for March (Ariel Atom Experience), July I will be too busy with UTCC/TT duties plus it will probably be hot. So... October it is, sorry.

 sorry....at the time when i looked, i didn't realize "VIR Patriot Course" was synonymous with circuitcross. thanks for confirming though. i didn't think to look at get-fast.net either which i will next time.

Re: Circuitcross? - getfast - 03-16-2011

LOL no worries. I'm one of the folks who tries to make sure that info is easy to find on the interwebs, which is why I was sad when I saw your post...
