Any reason why I shouldn't pull the trigger on this? - WRXtranceformed - 01-26-2011 http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?dest=9999999997&product_id=15716946&sourceid=15852024820260715393&wmlspartner=lw9MynSeamY Seems like a good price and it gets pretty decent reviews for a no-name TV once its factory settings are readjusted. I don't really NEED another TV but I have a 50" maxent plasma in my bedroom that gets really hot and it's only 1080i. I could probably sell the TV and the surround sound I have set up right now for most of what it would cost for that new TV. Thoughts? Videophiles? Re: Any reason why I shouldn't pull the trigger on this? - Apoc - 01-26-2011 WRXtranceformed Wrote:no-name TV I have a conceptual problem with a Walmart specific brand that I can't verify reviews of independently. I have no evidence to suggest this particular TV is crap, but there's probably a reason why you (or I) have never heard of the brand. If I was buying new, an idea I've been toying with lately, I doubt I'd go 120 Hz. The differences are somewhat minor, but if you're laying out the cash.... Oh and what's the constrast ratio of this TV? Seems like that sort of thing should be listed. Watch here: http://dealnews.com/Electronics/HDTVs/LCD-TVs/55-LCD-HDTV-Deals-560.html Re: Any reason why I shouldn't pull the trigger on this? - WRXtranceformed - 01-26-2011 Yeah I guess that's a good point...for a couple hundred more I can get a nice Samsung or Vizio that I know will be a good TV. I guess the point was to keep it as cheap as possible because I know I could recoup the costs from selling my old TV Re: Any reason why I shouldn't pull the trigger on this? - caa337 - 01-26-2011 Someone said the contrast ratio was 4:000:1 which is really low compared to other HDTVs. But people do say it looks good. I have a 42 inch samsung plasma that doesn't get hot and is an really good tv. Re: Any reason why I shouldn't pull the trigger on this? - Ryan T - 01-26-2011 I def. recommend the Samsung. We've got a 42" Panasonic LCD in the bedroom and a 47" Samsung LCD in the living room and the Samsung puts the Panasonic to shame. My mom has an Element in her bedroom from Wal-Mart she bought during some big sale and a Vizio in the living room and the Vizio is far superior. The Element isn't a horrible TV, but if your going to watch HD much or spend any time gaming on it or anything it's well worth the extra money to get a quality unit. Re: Any reason why I shouldn't pull the trigger on this? - WRXtranceformed - 01-27-2011 Yeah the only reason I would get it is to get a better gaming / movie experience in my bedroom. The TV I have now isn't bad but it's seriously a space heater and it's only 1080i. I dont even know what my tv is that I have, its not even a flat panel, it does have HDMI inputs and a flat screen  I got it fo free, and thought I was doing okay for TVs. You guys have like 2-3 twice the size of my TV in crazy ass hi-def  Re: Any reason why I shouldn't pull the trigger on this? - HAULN-SS - 01-27-2011 Tigerdirect does have some crazy ass deals on TVs..not sure why. You can get like a 60" 720p for like 550$ on their site now Re: Any reason why I shouldn't pull the trigger on this? - BLINGMW - 01-27-2011 HAULN-SS Wrote:Tigerdirect does have some crazy ass deals on TVs..not sure why. You can get like a 60" 720p for like 550$ on their site nowProbably because almost no-one shopping for a TV that size is going to want 720p Re: Any reason why I shouldn't pull the trigger on this? - WRXtranceformed - 01-27-2011 Apoc Wrote:http://dealnews.com/Vizio-55-240-Hz-1080-p-Wifi-LED-LCD-HDTV-for-1-200-49-s-h/429857.htmlThat's a really good deal, but I really don't need a TV that bad to drop $1200. I was thinking if I found something that was reasonable in the 800 range I might pull the trigger because I could recoup most of the cost. Re: Any reason why I shouldn't pull the trigger on this? - Ken - 01-27-2011 FYI: Contrast ratios are worthless unless you're shopping within the same brand. There is no standard in between different brands. At least the last time i shopped. Re: Any reason why I shouldn't pull the trigger on this? - caa337 - 01-27-2011 I thought my 720P plasma looked amazing, Didn't feel like spending the extra money for 1080p cause its not that crazy of a difference. But its not like I had 800 for a tv. I'm actually thinking of selling it because I hardly use it atm. Re: Any reason why I shouldn't pull the trigger on this? - WRXtranceformed - 01-27-2011 Anything HD looks awesome, but when you're gaming...1080p + HDMI hookups = so much win My downstairs big screen is 1080p and I used to play XBOX down there...but I prefer having it in my room so I can pass out watching Netflix. Re: Any reason why I shouldn't pull the trigger on this? - caa337 - 01-27-2011 Wanna buy my tv? haha Re: Any reason why I shouldn't pull the trigger on this? - WRXtranceformed - 01-28-2011 Well the problem is, the people that built this house for whatever reason didn't include an ethernet jack in my living room. So I CAN play Xbox in my living room but I have no way to connect to XBL. I bought a wireless Xbox antenna a while back (I have the old Xbox without built in wifi) but it doesn't work anymore. Even when it did, it was laggier than it normally is. So the easiest solution is to keep the Xbox in my bedroom (where I like playing it anyway). Re: Any reason why I shouldn't pull the trigger on this? - WRXtranceformed - 01-28-2011 caa337 Wrote:Wanna buy my tv? hahaDepends! what are the stats? My goal was to keep the size the same or bigger (using a 50" now) and make the jump to 1080p for video games.
