Aside from the rumours of massive HPF failures, a coworker (who loves bmws) just sold his 335i and warns anyone about owning one, despite the BMW "fix" his bmw was in the shop every 3 months for a new HPFP. Eventually gave up and sold it so he could buy a 2001 740i Sport. He considers it reliable compared to the 335i cause its ran the past 6 months without going into BMW.

Are you dead set on BMWs? You can get a TL in great shape for that coin. It's going to be generally way more reliable too.
