in 2005 after 30k miles it was sold to someone in DC and i got into an A4 1.8T. it's probably still driving around in DC somewhere.

it wasn't very good in auto-x despite winning my novice class the one time i got to drive it with all the mods on it. very heavy and no power. on back roads it was very fun though.

do it, you'll have fun. the first few times you're out there you will be focusing on learning the car, not being competitive. most of us here in MM started out auto-x'ing before we moved on to tracking and other types of motorsports. lots of us still auto-x actively all the time.

the A4 was chipped, A8 front brake rotor conversion, boost gauge, pedals....i spent most of my mod money trying to keep it maintained, eventually failed and had engine complications due to sludge. fixed it, sold it, didn't look back. if it wasn't for that incident i'd still have it.
