Pre-College Solo Wrench Day - SlimKlim - 09-06-2010
Alright. My little yellow gremlin has been neglected and unloved all summer, because a certain motorcycle has been drawing all my attention and finances. Now that this autocross is coming up, I need to replace my rear trailing arm bushings (so my rear wheels don't move around under heavy acceleration and braking), and Jake, Kristin and I are splitting a thing of Super Blue to bleed our brakes.
It wouldn't hurt to make the motor of the bike one color, or to wire up my instrument lights so I can stop guessing when my turn signals are on, so maybe if the car doesn't take too long I'll try to get that done as well.
Let's say this Saturday at Noon at Cabell's downtown (if thats cool with Cabell, and this is early for me, I work until 5:30) and we can work on our shiznit all afternoon. I'll probably be free during the day Sunday as well if some things don't get done, or maybe that can be wash/wax day.

Definitely. My friend from UVa just bought an old Cherokee and wants help doing the valve cover gasket. Told him to come up that day, so we can do that and my brake fluid, plus Kristin/you.
Obviously anyone/thing else that needs work is welcome.

I'm not running the autocross but I do want to do the drill mod and bleed my clutch so I might come out for a wrench day. Who wants to sit in my car and help do the bleed?

Joey, you have the RTAB tool? The RTAB is the biggest bitch of em all in terms of bushings.....Unless your throwing in prothane which does not allow proper articulation of the trailing arm.

Research about the articulation of the Rear Trailing arm in twisting motion. Only proper way to do it is a rear spherical or stock RTAB. I plan on stock rear trailing arm bushing with limiters as I get points for sphericals in the suspension in time trials.

Ah. I see. Another Terry Fair crusade. Meh. I'll stick with poly. 95a or whatever it is for Powerflex purple is pretty soft.

haha Well I did a bit more research than just following Terry Fair. This is also an issue with DSMs in the front lower control arm position and is well documented that you dont want poly there. Spherical or stock.
I know I need new ones or stiffer as im seeing my rear tire as far forward as an inch of deflection (thats a shit ton). I know im generating a decent amount of grip now cause on street tires I get the car to fuel starve, which is why im doing a dual pickup Euro oil pan setup in the m3 instead of just the VAC oil pan baffle I was planning, cars apart to do that right now, 9 quart oil changes will be fun... And then I gotta do a dual fuel pump setup as well but for now I just gotta fill up the car with a shit ton of gas.

I bought the polyurethane street formula ones from rouge engineering that can be installed without the tool, spherical ones are out of my budget, and replacing stock bushings is a huge bitch even with the tool. Supposedly these don't need the tool so I'm going with them.
