Girlfriend needs a DD..less than $5k - HAULN-SS - 09-02-2010

I think I am going to pick up my girlfriend a car. She doesnt have one that is exclusively hers, and that's annoying as shit. I was thinking of picking up something reliable, under $5k, and *might* be halfway appealing to a girl. What are my options? Her commute is short, so I wouldnt rule out a cheap SUV or something else that gets worse gas mileage. Was hoping for year 2000+. Mileage can be high-ish as long as it's a car known not to asplode when it reaches those higher miles

Sorry but the topic title just makes me lol. I have nothing of value to offer except that a Civic sounds perfect.

Heh..I thought of a civic, and between her and her sisters they have a fit, civic, and crv...so I think she'd probably be comfortable with a honda

getting a wife is one thing, but a girlfriend a CAR? i even debated getting my g/f a bicycle, but considered it a write-off in-case we broke up and she didn't want to return it to me. i watched too many courtTV shows when i was unemployed to buy my g/f anything of value since it would be considered a gift and thus would not be returned to me in the event of a break-up.

if anything i would try to help her how to purchase a car, but leave the responsibility on her end for fronting the cost. hell even picking yourself up a second vehicle and letting her drive it is debatable, but buying her a car? forget it.

Ah - i see, I wasnt clear the way I said the OP...I would be helping her get it, as in help her figure out the finances, the right car, not get ripped off, etc

Re: Girlfriend needs a DD..less than $5k - WRXtranceformed - 09-02-2010

The way you said it made it seem like you were buying it for her.

Get an older Civic or Corolla. They're about as cheap and reliable as they come.

01+ civic would be good IMO

98+ accord would also be sufficient

likelihood of those getting stoled in arlington?

Non-Si, non-modified Civic = very unlikely to get stolen

Re: Girlfriend needs a DD..less than $5k - Sijray21 - 09-02-2010

stolen or broken into? northern va sucks for older hondas. i think the accord would not be as much as a target as the civic. i also said 01+ civic because those are more difficult to break into. 88-00 civics...pretty much expect to get broken into.

i would tell her to not leave anything visible to thieves. that includes the circle left behind from GPS windshield mounts.

my integra did not appear to be modified (coilovers without a dramatic drop), but it was broken into a bunch of times.

Just needs a little TLC and it would make a nice little DD for your lady friend.

oh, nvm it is sold Sad

Otherwise, I'd agree with a base model civic

My brother just bought an IS250 and he's trying to sell his Lancer Ralliart (old school non-turbo version). It's a little dinged up but it's cheap and reliable.

Re: Girlfriend needs a DD..less than $5k - HAULN-SS - 09-03-2010

good suggestions so far. doing some digging online today. kinda like the idea of the accord

Re: Girlfriend needs a DD..less than $5k - ScottyB - 09-03-2010

my 01 accord was one of the best cars i've ever owned for a DD. the sedans are huge inside but don't drive like it.

Re: Girlfriend needs a DD..less than $5k - Maengelito - 09-03-2010

auto or manual? I think some of those mid 2000's accords can have some questionable automatic transmissions. It could just be old internet lore, but just something to keep in mind.

I'll sell her a nice lifted jeep for these rough winter months lol.
