93' GSX - Gs dewd - 08-21-2010

Don't know what I was thinking when I bought this but just picked up a decent 93' GSX. Got it for a very cheap price (under 1k). Only prob I see other then some obscence wiring is it needs a clutch. Not sure what to do with it yet. May just turn it into a DD buy returning it to factory status and lose all the "upgrades". The spec are as follows and I got these from the guy who actually "built" the car.
6 bolt 4G63, ARP Studs, Balance shafts removed, 2G Ported Exhaust Manifold, Evo 3 16g, 750 cc injectors, Spearco FMIC, Dejon Upper I/C and Intake piping, 2g throttle body elbow, Greddy Type rs bov, 3 Inch APEXI Exhaust, Rewired 190 Walbro Fuel Pump, Autometer Boost and Oil Pressure Guage, SAFC, Eprom ECU w/ Stage 3 Keydriver Chip, MAFt, 3 ' Gm MAF, and a HKS Turbo Timer.
Anyone with suggestion as what I should do with it? It actually seems to run good after I rewired the MAFt to the GM Maf wires and the wires where the SAFC where connected to the ecu plugs. Boy what a horrendous site that was. Surprised thne ecu wasn't fried. The wires where striped and spliced together but no tape no nothing on them to prtect the joints from shorting together. Also why I was repairing the wires I did pop out the ecu and crack the case open. It is indeed a eprom ecu with a keydriver chip set for the 750 cc inj and maft. Thinking I may if I don't put it all back to factory go with ECMLink light and run that and lose the keydriver chip and safc.
Ideals? Suggestions?

Re: 93' GSX - KPWSerpiente - 08-22-2010

New clutch. Clean up the wiring and whatever else needs attention. Dsmlink (I don't care what they call it now) + tune. Enjoy your 300 awhp car for less than 2gs.

I have a clutch on order and am really thinking I may go the link route. Also I am going to do all the typical crap ( as in water pump, timing belt and stuff, etc. etc.) just because i have no ideal when it was done last and better to be safe then sorry.

Yeah if you aren't sure about the belts and such you need to do them. I know you know the deal.
Sounds like you have a perfect grm challenge car. I saw a 92 awd laser on the trader that I wanted to snatch up (was slightly over a g) that was modded much like yours.

I got this one for 800. I guy from Staunton had it originally then a kid in c'ville got ahold of it and screwed the pooch on the clutch. Then he brung it to our shop for a est. and decided he didn't want to fix it and ask for a offer. I offered 800 and he took it. The guy in staunton I believe built it and he is on tuners. I can't complain at least it runs. The red one I had I paid 1k for the car and the engine was trashed. I am going to put the clutch in it next week if where slow at work. Then run it on the lift and check the gears and make sure there are no suprises there. I may even while the trans is out for the clutch going ahead and crake it open and look things over and replace anything that seems worn just because. It's so handy working at a trans shop.

And it no longer has the pimp'n blue racing seat. All stock interior except for the gauges and safc.

Hey leave my fart can alone. seriously though it is another thing that will be gone. 3" turbo back I think is a little over kill on this one. May step down to 2.5" with a decent muffler with dual tips that will resemble the factory look kinda like what I had on my red one. May keep the 3" and just change the muffler haven't decided yet. This will be a cruising car not a track car.

The body and interior is actually in good shape. It does need paint as the paint has started to fade in a few spots. But there is not major body damage or rust anywhere. After a good cleaning the interior will be almost new looking. Once I go through all the mechanicals and check evrything over it ought to be a decent dd car.

yeah $800? no joke! You could actually show up with some decent tires, spend some time making it as clean as possible and finish top 10.

Re: 93' GSX - Nvisabl - 09-08-2010

so when we tuning it ???

Not sure. I am still deciding whether to trash the safc and go to link or not. I did a light tune on it with the afc. Who ever tuned it last sucked big time as the thing was running pig rich. The had the Safc at +7 across the barod on low and high settings. Right now I have it ranging from -3 to -5 and it still seems a little rich. I have to pull more fuel and fine tune it. THe maft is zeroed out and the prom in the ecu is set for the injectors and maft. You would think the prom would be a little closer to taking care of the fuel then it's doing.
