Matt H - MHayes - 02-24-2010

Whatup madison motorsports, my name's Matt. I joined MM this past fall but haven't been to any of the meetings haha (interfered with class schedule last semester and getting crushed by classes this semester). I'm a junior and an econ major/CIS minor. The only person I know of in MM is Jake (shorts hall freshman year!)...I hope to become more involved next semester as my classes will be easier.

Anyway I've been into cars for as long as I can remember. I drive a 96 Trans Am WS6 A4 (built/stalled hopefully coming this summer) with a few mods including an exhaust leak, extremely rich tune and I believe rings going bad? Not sure since oil pressure is great..

The car has longtube headers, 219/219 .560 lift LPE cam w/ supporting valvetrain, ported intake, stock bottom end. It's sitting on Bilsteins and Eibach springs.

Re: Matt H - ScottyB - 02-24-2010

sweet. those are my favorite f-body wheels.

any plans for suspension?

Re: Matt H - MHayes - 02-24-2010

I'm not going to mess with the suspension anymore until I can afford to do it right...gona give Sam Strano a call when that day comes.

The next thing I'm going to tackle is brakes. If you've ever driven a lt1 fbody you know what I mean when I say the brakes leave a lot to be desired. I'm planning on converting to the ls1 brake setup at some point this coming summer.

Re: Matt H - Jake - 02-24-2010

I'm with Scotty, I dig the wheels. I didn't know you had a WS6, cool beans.

If you're getting the emails (I think you are) then you should come to a wrench day or something and just hang out - even if you can't make it to track weekends or autocross it'd be good to see you.

Re: Matt H - JustinG - 02-24-2010

welcome....

Re: Matt H - MHayes - 02-24-2010

Jake, when is the next wrench day? I am getting the emails btw...In fact there's probably an email saying when the next wrench day is and I just haven't read it.

On a completely different note my brother (goes to VCU) is also into cars. He drives a 94 GT...stock for now minus 373 gears. But! Sitting in our garage is a NICE 331 stroker. Built to handle 2 stages of a 300shot of spray, AFR 185's and a ton of other parts I've helped my brother collect over the last year or so. He thinks he's going to be able to DD this car to VCU

I don't know if there any mustang guys in MM but we bought the motor from Ryclef331 who is a well known member and a mod on sn95forums.com - he made 10 passes on the motor, spraying 5, ran a best of 10.88 on the motor spraying a 100 shot (so he says)...decided that wasn't fast enough so he's ditching Ford and going with a GM motor and putting a LQ4 (think iron block LS2) in his mustang.

This summer, we are doing a complete build on his car: motor, exhaust, suspension, even replacing the interior and getting it painted. If you all are interested, I will post a build thread on here. Also, if anyone knows of a good shop in the Richmond area that is good at tuning 5.0's let me know please.

Hah, we were talking about it at the meeting tonight. Looking like Sunday since the weather is set to be nice. We'll shoot out another email (and post here) once we have it nailed down 100%.

Re: Matt H - V1GiLaNtE - 02-25-2010

Welcome! Hope to see you around MM events soon!

Re: Matt H - Goodspeed - 02-26-2010

Welcome to the club, I've seen your car around. Always liked the LT1 WS6's as (IMO) the best looking F-body out of those years. Your avatar is a good sign that you will do well here as well

Re: Matt H - TorinoCobra070 - 02-26-2010

YES! another fbody owner!! We're gonna take over this club lol Even if there are only three of us now that I know about....

Incredibly clean looking car, btw. Thanks for makin mine look like a jacked up monster truck

Re: Matt H - MHayes - 02-26-2010

thanks for the welcome.

GoodSpeed - I agree with you. The regular LT1 trans am hood is ugly...and whoever designed the formula/v6 front end should be shot. :vomit:

TorinoCobra - are you a member of ls1tech? Before I bought this car I was actually looking for a '01-02 6 speed trans am but couldn't find anything decent in my price range. Random fact: There were more WS6's built in 2002 than regular Trans Ams...and you gotta lower that thing! Do you know who drives the other silver 98+ WS6?

Re: Matt H - fiveoh2go - 02-26-2010

Welcome, nice to see more domestic V8 powah in the club.

I know, your car is infinitely more rare than mine lol. I see the silver one every day in C4, some guy drives it lol. There is also a red 98-00 WS6 with a lady driver . I don't know who either of them are though. As far as lowering, I will gladly lower it if you are funding the venture  Oh and yes, I am on LS1tech.

Re: Matt H - MHayes - 02-26-2010

Haha well considering WS6 lt1's were only produced in 96-97 of course it's going to be rarer. The previous owner told me it was 1 of 21 but he had a sniffing problem if you know what I mean, so I don't know how true that is. The dark green is a rarer color (believe it's called Polo green?), it has tan leather interior, no audio control buttons on steering wheel, and of course it's a WS6...but at the end of the day it's still a mass produced "American" car. That being said I would gladly trade for your car any day of the week! Big Grin

The person who owns the other silver WS6 lives in Copper Beech (where I live). I have not seen a chick driving a red WS6..let alone a red WS6.

As far as lowering your car goes...I'm just as broke as the next guy haha. You can do it how the previous owner of my car did it and throw some Eibach springs on for ~$230 using stock shocks...or if you're feeling lucky/get more info summit sells a set for like $180 but it's probably Eibach Sportlines which you DON'T want.

For springs I would recommend Strano Performance lowering springs - to complement the springs at a minimum I would recommend Strano valved Bilsteins or preferably Koni's if your budget allows. I bought Bilstein HD's hoping to improve the ride quality of my car a bit. They helped but weren't worth the $420 IMO.

The general consensus on shocks for 4th gens seems to be:
Bilstein's are a good all around shock but not particularly good at anything. i.e. straight line performance or cornering.
Something like QA1's = a good straight line performance shock
and Koni's tend to be the better performance/handling shock.

She is a friend of one of my ex girlfriends. I remember being at a party in nova and some dude smacked into her car (which is actually very clean) and the first thing she screams is "my daddy is going to kill me" and just keeps screaming about what "her daddy is going to do, and what her daddy will think".

Her screaming is a bit valid, they guy got her good in the fender and door, but it was obviously that "daddy" took care of everything. And she was generally nice to me I thought when I met her the few times, dont think shes a "car girl" tho.

haha of course I meant he could go from handling like a ship to handling like a yacht with the koni's.....

Also realized I said "let alone a red WS6" ...meant just WS6 in general...
