NASA at VIR - February 20/21 - Work or Race! - Jake - 01-22-2010

Just a heads-up, NASA's first track weekend is happening February 20/21 at VIR. They're doing the typical races they always do, plus a Circuitcross on Sunday the 21st.

More information about everything is available here.

Also... I've contacted Laura about workers. They have FOUR remaining spots open to work flag stations. I will be going down to flag, as will Mike D'Amico and Justin. We do not count toward the four other spots.

If you want to go, PLEASE PM me and give me your first/last name and email. I'll pass it along to Laura. If it's your first time, you will be working "for free" - though they still give you meal tickets and pay your hotel - and past that it's $165 for the weekend.

Please let me know ASAP, it's a good chance to hang out with people, see fast cars, and make some cash money.

Come Play that weekend. Its a good time, and its a good chance to meet the Alumni from this board.

Current student participation? Im confused Tongue hahah just kidding.

MM represents very well for NASA so you will know plenty of people. We got people in timing/scoring, registration, tech inspection, flagging, pacing, announcing, grid. I would be more than happy to pick somebody up in Richmond or Northern Virginia and give them a ride to the track.

Im flagging this event, keep in mind they put you up in a hotel with other workersand like said before meals are paid for aside from dinner. Great fun, ill be working all the events i can this summer, so if your worried about having to hang out with someone you dont know, ill be there. Unless of course you dont know me, then you can just hang out by yourself.

In the future Joey, you can ask to work only one day, that way you can do the circuitcross the other day. I know a few people USED to do that, im not sure if they are still availalbe for doing that.

We like to use the term "postponed until Mar 28" instead...

Re: NASA at VIR - February 20/21 - Work or Race! - Jake - 01-25-2010

Update: we have filled all 4 flagger spots that were open. Add in me, Justin and Mike, and you're looking at seven MMers working flag positions. Dunno about the rest of you, but I'm guessing we'll see the 'regulars' like Rex/Julie, Kaan, etc. doing what you do. Looking forward to it!

Re: NASA at VIR - February 20/21 - Work or Race! - Jewels - 02-16-2010

Just a reminder especially to you all that have never been to the February VIR event. Pack clothing for all kinds of weather. Just because the weather man says its gonna be nice, doesn't mean that on Friday afternoon he won't have changed his mind. I've been to the February event where it was 70 degrees on friday, and on Saturday it was snowing. This can be a really cold event if you don't dress accordingly. Those of us that have been doing this a while just pack for all kinds of weather that way we always know we're covered. Once you are out on a flagging station you won't be coming back until probably around 6 so make sure you are warm while you are there.

Have fun all!! Take some pics for those of us who cannot be there.

Re: NASA at VIR - February 20/21 - Work or Race! - D_Eclipse9916 - 02-16-2010

Double to Julie's statements, pack for everything.

May I ask who are the current 4 students joining us? Id love to see at some point a whole list of everyone who works for NASA from MM.

Re: NASA at VIR - February 20/21 - Work or Race! - DavidL - 02-16-2010

Im not working but might try to make it down for a day to check things out-- what is the schedule for the weekend? Is there a better day to come down and look around?

Re: NASA at VIR - February 20/21 - Work or Race! - Jake - 02-16-2010

Let's see... people from MM who I know are working this weekend:

Alumni
DJ
Mike D'Amico
Rex
Julie
Kaan
Matt Leech
Pete Denbigh
Alison Denbigh
Justin Gallamore

Current
Jake
Adam Zisa
Chris Chrzan
Steve Plante
Nate Carden

Chris & Steve joined last semester and Nate is new as of this spring semester. All three of them (plus Adam Z) will be first-time flaggers.

David - Sunday is touring lap day. If you wanted to drive down Saturday night and stay with us, go for it. It's about a 3 hour drive so a day trip may be a lot. Here is the link to the event's main page. They have schedules for each day posted by now.

Re: NASA at VIR - February 20/21 - Work or Race! - D_Eclipse9916 - 02-17-2010

Good list, I think thats a good list to show current students how many MM people are there for support and that going means there will be tons of MMers to talk (harass in my case) to.

Re: NASA at VIR - February 20/21 - Work or Race! - Jewels - 02-17-2010

Stay a little while for the party guys, we wont' get a chance to talk to you flaggers otherwise. I know a few of us are staying at the track so we won't see you at the hotel or anything.

Re: NASA at VIR - February 20/21 - Work or Race! - Jewels - 02-18-2010

What time are you donkey's leaving tomorrow? Also, where are you staying?

Re: NASA at VIR - February 20/21 - Work or Race! - JustinG - 02-18-2010

We are at the best western, I'm heading down after work unless DJ gets off work earlier and I wait on him for a ride. Will be leaving at 6 if driving.

Re: NASA at VIR - February 20/21 - Work or Race! - Jake - 02-18-2010

We're leaving from JMU at 3, so we should be there around 6:30 or 7. Our plan is to head straight to VIR to see you guys, then go to dinner (Ham's? unless there's a better idea) with y'all and a couple Miatar people who want to meet everyone.

Also staying @ Best Western.
