FYI: Bill Scott Passed Away Today - Ole - 12-07-2009 Many of you race, drive or help out at Summit Point MP. Bill Scott was the owner of the track and had been ill for a while. He finally succumbed to his illnesses this morning. Figured a few of you may have known him or of him. He will be missed.... Re: FYI: Bill Scott Passed Away Today - Mike - 12-07-2009 Shit. Good guy. Re: FYI: Bill Scott Passed Away Today - Kaan - 12-08-2009 He will be missed. As long as i've been around Summit, i've seen him around. He was very hands on when he was healthy. Re: FYI: Bill Scott Passed Away Today - Maengelito - 12-08-2009 Summit is where I (and probably many of you) popped the track cherry. Indirectly, I blame and thank Bill Scott for that. Re: FYI: Bill Scott Passed Away Today - D_Eclipse9916 - 12-08-2009 I never met him indirectly or directly, but I thank him for his contributions to the motorsports community and for my chance of being able to be on my favorite track. Re: FYI: Bill Scott Passed Away Today - CaptainHenreh - 12-08-2009 So when is the Bill Scott Memorial 24 Hour? Re: FYI: Bill Scott Passed Away Today - Steve85 - 12-08-2009 Yeah, never met him and he was probably ill before my track cherry popped, but a big thanks for having a track in the middle of nowhere and making it work. Re: FYI: Bill Scott Passed Away Today - G.Irish - 12-08-2009 The first race I ever saw was the 12 Hour at Summit Point, I think freshman year. I can't remember where I first got on track, but I certainly spent plenty of time at Summit Point and I have Bill Scott to thank for that. I just hope that now that he's gone his kids don't sell the track and we end up with a subdevelopment there. Re: FYI: Bill Scott Passed Away Today - Sijray21 - 12-08-2009 I thank that man for owning this race track and keeping its operations going. What got me hooked into motorsports in-general was my first experience at the race track: on a cold and wet Saturday morning Scotty woke me up from my drunken slumber and i passed out in the car on the way to Summit Point. Still reeking of alcohol i climb into Mike Collin's blue honda and head toward Turn 1 (Mike - do you remember that?). Mike was teaching me the ropes of how to flag. I was completely miserable until i heard the sounds of a few vipers running down the front straight of Summit Point. I fell in-love. I came back to work many event with a few different orgs and that eventually led to some track-time with the civic. This is when my passion for cars turned into more of a passion for motorsports. I ultimately owe Bill Scott for that experience. Re: FYI: Bill Scott Passed Away Today - Mike - 12-08-2009 sorry jayray, i will never forget your drunken/smelly asses in the back of my car. Re: FYI: Bill Scott Passed Away Today - ScottyB - 12-08-2009 Summit was the first place i saw a roadcourse up close and the first time i flagged a course. i had never seen the kind of machinery out on track like that before and i was practically adrenaline-drunk all day. i was way underdressed for the weather, got little to no sleep the night before and absolutely froze in the little flagging station but that day started it all for me and my motorsports interests. that was an awesome day i won't forget. RIP Bill Re: FYI: Bill Scott Passed Away Today - Jeff - 12-08-2009 Wow. That is really sad. I guess his son is in charge now? I hope the place keeps going in the right direction. Well, really, his son has been running things for a while now. In fact, as big of a prick as he can be, he's really done some good things for the track that his Bill Scott would never have done. For 71 he didn't age very well...price you pay being a lifetime racer, I guess. Re: FYI: Bill Scott Passed Away Today - Steve85 - 12-11-2009 Quote:In fact, as Gayle Lorenz wrote earlier this week, Scott started 124 races during those years, won 42 times and finished in the top three 77 times. Wow... So who was the whiney Indy / Camel GT driver? |
