Project XJ - Jeff - 08-26-2009 Well, we all knew there was no way I was going to stay clear of projects forever. I'm surprised I went as long as I did, but its good to be back at it. Here it is as I got it with 151,000 miles. ![]() ![]() ![]() Stats Year - 1997 Model - XJ "Country" Engine - 4.0L I6 HO Trans - 4-speed Aisin Warner (AW4) Transfer Case - NP231 "Command-Trac", 2.72:1 ratio Front Axle - Dana 30 Rear Axle - Corporate 8.25 3.55:1 ratio (Non-ABS) Done so far - Oil change...I had to take the damn starter out to get the oil filter off it was on so tight... - Serviced difs and installed Lucas and GL-5 75W90 - Fixed shitty radio install and added ipod interface - Replaced oil pressure sending unit Waiting to get done - Front skid plate - T-case skid - 2in hitch ![]() I'll talk about future plans here soon. Re: Project XJ - CaptainHenreh - 08-26-2009 Jeff, would it bother you to keep a Price Paid + Source + Running Total for parts you put on it? I don't care how much you paid for the jeep, but I'd like to keep track on what you've spent post purchase, as I want to do an XJ someday. Re: Project XJ - ScottyB - 08-26-2009 151,000? just a baby! those damn AMC 6's are iron horses. looking forward to your progress, i dig XJ's quite a bit myself Re: Project XJ - WRXtranceformed - 08-26-2009 Yeah that motor will run forever, nice pickup! My buddy had one too and when he got rid of it the only issue was with the transmission, it kind of grinded and didn't shift into gear well. Re: Project XJ - Goodspeed - 08-27-2009 Badass...I approve. As a zombie survivalist, of course. Re: Project XJ - HAULN-SS - 08-27-2009 Jeff Wrote:- Fixed shitty radio install and added ipod interface Got any decks that will fit one of these? I have this same jeep, and the stock radio in it is no good. I also need to find a replacement antenna sometime..the original one got whacked somewhere along the line. Mine's got 186k and still running like a dream, including working AC. Nice pickup! Re: Project XJ - Steve85 - 08-27-2009 It's a shame how many of these are sitting in the cash 4 clunker holding areas at dealers. Good luck with the project! Re: Project XJ - ScottyB - 08-27-2009

I am trying to keep it cheap because resale is an ultimate goal. I really need a truck, so I plan to sell or trade it later. I just got such a smokin' deal I went with this. The goal is a 3in lift, 31X10.5s, full OEM skids, D-rings front and rear, and some lights....thats about it. Skids (front two, still need fuel tank) - $20 2in Hitch, OEM - $40 Oil sending unit - $32 Lucas and GL-5 $30ish (I would call this a required job...really made it quieter) Mopar roof-top tire carrier - $55 HAULN-SS Wrote:Got any decks that will fit one of these? I really like it. Its a fun little vehicle and I have yet to really take it off-road. I plan to take photos as I do all the little installs and projects so I will keep everyone informed. As for a radio. I have some stock type CD players, as well as one nice pioneer premier I would like to sell. Pio has XM and shit. PM me if you are interested. Re: Project XJ - Jake - 08-28-2009 Looks good Jeff! Actually, it looks really clean for 151k. I agree with the "just a baby" comment. My buddy has a 93 Country with the 4.0, and a shit-ton of miles, and aside from wear items it runs great. Re: Project XJ - Jeff - 08-29-2009 Replaced broken e-brake handle w/ older style - $15 Hope to get some cheap hatch props here soon. That will pretty much take care of the annoying bullshit I needed to fix for now. I'm gonna be saving my loot for the lift and the big front tow hooks for a bit now. Vise-grips > Broom Re: Project XJ - balactm - 08-30-2009 mega-bawlin. good buy dude. looks really good for the mileage. Re: Project XJ - Jeff - 09-01-2009 balactm Wrote:mega-bawlin. good buy dude. looks really good for the mileage. The paint looks like the surface of the moon...but its a Jeep. Thats the point of it right? New problem. Backup lights don't work all the time, and the turn signals make my 4-ways come on sometimes... :dunno: Re: Project XJ - Jeff - 09-02-2009 I'm 12....is this win? ![]() ![]()
Re: Project XJ - ScottyB - 09-02-2009 looks like an awkward gun turret. so, maybe win? Re: Project XJ - JustinG - 09-02-2009 i say safari rack over that Re: Project XJ - REED - 09-02-2009 with a bigger tire - win Re: Project XJ - CaptainHenreh - 09-02-2009 white97dsm Wrote:i say safari rack over that+1 |
