I might need a CHEAP DD......what should I buy? - fiveoh2go - 06-22-2009 Basically my DD/beater might be totaled so what can I get for around $2k-$3k? This car doesn't have to be "cool" it just has to get me from point a to b. My only requirements are: - I need to be able to fit in it and be somewhat comfortable (I'm 6' 6") - Four doors (insurance is cheaper and I like the extra space) - Wrong wheel drive (for the snow) - Most importantly....it needs to be sledgehammer reliable Bonus points if it's American. Alright, so what should I be looking at? Re: I might need a CHEAP DD......what should I buy? - CaptainHenreh - 06-22-2009 Focus. Julie and I love hers. Been a good solid car, and they should easily be around that price. The sedan is kind of lame but... :dunno: Re: I might need a CHEAP DD......what should I buy? - Jake - 06-22-2009 Focii are cheap... what about a ZX5? It's a 4-door hatch, so that fits your 4-door requirement and isn't quite as boring as the sedan. Re: I might need a CHEAP DD......what should I buy? - .RJ - 06-22-2009 90-97 Honda Accord. Re: I might need a CHEAP DD......what should I buy? - Ken - 06-23-2009 Late 90's Pontiac Gran Prix? Grand Am were 4 Re: I might need a CHEAP DD......what should I buy? - CaptainHenreh - 06-23-2009 Grand Prix were 2 and 4 door. Re: I might need a CHEAP DD......what should I buy? - Dave - 06-23-2009 <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://mmsports.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8519">viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8519</a><!-- l --> It's not a four door, but the insurance is retarded cheap (insurance on the truck is actually going up when I pull this off my policy). Otherwise, it fits your requirements while also being incredibly fun to drive at the same time. Help a brotha out! Re: I might need a CHEAP DD......what should I buy? - Evan - 06-23-2009 arent you into SHOs? seems like a match made in heaven. Re: I might need a CHEAP DD......what should I buy? - ViPER1313 - 06-23-2009 2000+ Taurus w/ 24v motor Super cheap, motor is crazy reliable, cheap insurance, huge inside. Its also bland looking, has cheap interior parts and is not that quick, but it won't leave you on the side of the road in the winter. If you don't mind super slow transport the 12v Vulcan Taurus is even more reliable and easier to find parts for, although you are giving up 50hp and neither really commands a price premium. 24v cars usually have more options as well. Look for the little silver rectangle on the rear of the front fender arch - that means its a 24v. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ctd/1229606195.html">http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ ... 06195.html</a><!-- m --> Re: I might need a CHEAP DD......what should I buy? - Goodspeed - 06-23-2009 Matt, what the hell did you do to that poor Pontiac  Honestly, I'll second the SHO. Adams is still to this day one of the most comfortable cars I've ever been in. I saw Lady McDeath in her red one the other day, you should offer her some $$$ for that thing... EDIT: Or, a police package Crown Vic. So ballin. But not FWD....though it'd fit you and be comfy. And, not a car, but four doors, 4WD for snow and reliable as shit

E30!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111       :bootyshake:  :vomit: Re: I might need a CHEAP DD......what should I buy? - ViPER1313 - 06-23-2009 I really wouldn't call any SHO drop dead reliable, although they are no worse than any other 14+ year old car (don't buy a 1996-1999, they are money pits). Certain parts are hard to find for them and most manual SHOs have been beat to hell. If you can find one that has been decently maintained it probably won't kill your bank account, although leaking water pumps / valve cover gaskets, slipping clutches and broken motor mounts can add up quickly. Are you looking more for a manual or automatic? Re: I might need a CHEAP DD......what should I buy? - Ken - 06-23-2009 Stand by my Grand Prix idea, especially if you can get a GTP. Re: I might need a CHEAP DD......what should I buy? - ScottyB - 06-23-2009 P71 crown vic. cheap, will live through the apocolypse, low rent but comfy interior, massive trunk and decent highway mpg. lets not forget nobody will tailgate you. Re: I might need a CHEAP DD......what should I buy? - fiveoh2go - 06-23-2009 Goodspeed Wrote:Matt, what the hell did you do to that poor Pontiac  Haha, Lady McDeath.....I forgot about her. I NEED that car!!! Sooo clean and you know it's never been beat on. Anyway, about my car. Some chick backed into it in the bank parking lot with her Expedition. Right smack in the middle of the car where the center post is for the front door latches and the rear door hinges. If the Pontiac was a couple years old I'm sure they would just fix it but since it's a '95 I have a feeling they are going to total it out.
Re: I might need a CHEAP DD......what should I buy? - Jeff - 07-01-2009 I've got a 96' Mercury Mystique here $1,000...
