Honda to release V4 Super Brackbird? - G.Irish - 06-22-2009

Per Rex's request, here is the link. For my money I think MCN is pulling the 1200 cc number out of their rectums but there have been rumblings about Honda making some new V4's for awhile now. I figure if they are going to make something like a Super Blackbird it's gonna need at least 1300 cc to compete with the Busa and ZX-14.

Ginger would prefer a super VFR and I can't say I disagree. Maybe a 1000 cc VFR would be the ticket but honestly I'm still waiting for my V5 powered Honda. Or a 1200 cc v-twin RC61...

Yeah I wish they'd do another homo-special but I don't think they will given the Fireblade's success. On the other hand maybe they could just do it for the sake of doing it, not necessarily to race.

Only other thing with this bike is that I hope it doesn't inherit any of the weirdness of the V4 concept they showed last year. I'll have to find a picture of it.

I would like for Honda to make an entry level sport-y bike.

You know, like a Bandit/FZ6/SV650/Monster. Only with ABS, that'd be cool.

Wait, what's that? They *do* make such a motorcycle? They just refuse to sell it here because they're giant cocks?

Oh you mean the Hornet 600 and the CB1000R? Well, I can all but guarantee that if they brought it here you wouldn't buy it. The problem is that both of those bikes are made in Europe and because of the exchange rate they'd be inordinately expensive if they brought them to the US like they did with the previous generation (the 599 and 919 respectively).

They'd have to move production to Japan to make it worthwhile. One of these days I need to get a hold of one of the Honda moto product planners and get their thoughts.

Well, yeah, that's the real problem. The 599 was the most expensive of the standards and had the least tech. No fuel injection, an old steel frame, last gen motor... the 919 sold OK, but suffered from bad marketing (IMHO).

But why not start production to the US? Why make goldwings and shit overseas when you could make them here? We've got to be a largish market share, and our labor rates *can't* be higher than yurop...what's the deal?

Is it really too much to ask to have a sporty, upright, stylish motorcycle with ABS for under 7?

I've seen some spy photos of Honda doing some desert testing with the bike. I would've bought them for TOV but the price is too high. Anyway in black it looks a bit better but not much. The tail section is very much like the 1000RR. The exhaust is sort of the same concept as the 1000RR but it has some tacky chrome on it. Looks kinda like those awful fan shaped Z1000 exhausts. It has upside-down forks and some decent braking hardware so it should be fairly sporty.

In a way it looks like a mish-mash of different bikes rather than its own thing. I think if they balanced the design better it could have some potential.

That bike is hideous.
