The Stig Revealed! - WRXtranceformed - 06-21-2009 Michael Schumacher revealed himself as Top Gear's mysterious test driver the Stig. The former Formula One driver took off the Stig's famous white helmet during an interview with presenter Jeremy Clarkson after the studio audience urged him to reveal his true identity. Clarkson jokingly pretended not to recognise Schumacher and asked him what his name was before he became famous as the Stig, before excitedly shouting to the audience: "It's Michael Schumacher!" The Stig test drives cars around the Top Gear track in Dunsfold Park, Surrey, and trains each week's guest for their lap for the Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car feature. His identity has a closely guarded secret although many people have speculated that the famous white overalls and helmet are shared by several drivers. Silly rumours about the Stig have been used to add to the mystery surrounding the character who never speaks to camera. In Sunday's show, Clarkson quizzed Schumacher about some of the rumours, asking: "Are you illegal in 17 US states?" Schumacher, who was Formula One world drivers' champion seven times, replied: "No, it's much exaggerated. It's only nine." Clarkson then asked about another rumour: "Some people have told us you only know two facts about ducks and both of them are wrong. Is that true?" Schumacher replied "Well obviously they won't fly" and was quickly interrupted by Clarkson who said: "No, they were right, you don't know anything about ducks." Former Formula One driver Perry McCarthy was Top Gear's original Stig, who dressed all in black during the first two series. He was replaced with the current Stig, dressed in white, after he revealed his identity. http://www.topgear.com/uk/videos/stig-revealed Re: The Stig Revealed! - ScottyB - 06-21-2009 i dunno... spoilerish: i just finished watching the episode and at the end Jeremy makes some comments that get you thinking that maybe it was a hoax. it was a funny interview though and Shumi driving the reasonably priced car was a good one. Re: The Stig Revealed! - fiveoh2go - 06-21-2009 ScottyB Wrote:i dunno... Yeah, definitely just a publicity stunt. Re: The Stig Revealed! - Goodspeed - 06-21-2009 Whatever happened to the rumor that Ben Collins is the Stig? Re: The Stig Revealed! - Jake - 06-22-2009 I don't fully believe it. I bet on the next show, Clarkson's one-liner will be "Some say _______. Some say he's Michael Shumacher. All we know is ____." Probably a publicity stunt. Re: The Stig Revealed! - WRXtranceformed - 06-22-2009 It turns out that it looks like it isn't Schumaker. haha  Re: The Stig Revealed! - Mike - 06-22-2009 yeah... no chance for about 15 different reasons. Re: The Stig Revealed! - Goodspeed - 06-23-2009 http://www.autoblog.com/2009/06/23/video-ferrari-fxx-blitzes-the-i-top-gear-i-track/ Schumi's FXX...is it the quickest? However I wouldn't be surprised if it was significantly faster than anything they've tested since it's got more downforce than an Enzo with about 200 more horsepower. Re: The Stig Revealed! - Evan - 06-23-2009 and 450lbs lighter than an enzo Re: The Stig Revealed! - Andy - 06-23-2009 I think the ending of the show, they made it pretty clear that Schumi is not the Stig. |
