The Teaching Company - Steve85 - 05-28-2009 This company just moved in next door to our building: http://www.teach12.com/teach12.aspx I Googled them to find out what they do and found that Professor Scott Stevens from JMU has several offerings on the site. I'm guessing more than a few here took his classes. It seems like a neat concept, courses designed and administered by professors on CD / DVD without having to sign up for a college course. I'm not sure it's vastly different than books (other than the obvious media difference) by professors but it might be worth a closer look. - Evan - 05-28-2009 interesting idea. my first reaction was underwhelmed since instructor led online classes would have be similar with the huge benefit of interactivity and the ability to ask questions. but, the pricing looks good (assuming most of them are $99/dvd like the ones I glanced at) and even better I really like the audio only versions. Im a big fan of audio books in the car while commuting and audio lectures from a good professor would be even better. - stevegula - 06-01-2009 Stevens was my professor for COB291. Arguably the most useful COB class and he was definitely a great teacher. I could see him doing this successfully because of his teaching style. |
