Project: Daily Beater - D_Eclipse9916 - 05-21-2009
As some of you may know, I bought steve's father's SC400. I was going to buy a truck as my next vehicle, but logistics with a big-ass truck at my mother's house till I find a place up here just wasnt going to work.
The car when I received it was in fair condition, or so I thought. It is actually turning out to be a really nice vehicle. When I bought it, the exterior was a bit rough, and the interior was dirty as hell, and a bit rough. I had budgeted $500 dollars to get the mechanicals of the engine in terms of all maintenance such as timing belt, water pump, tune-up etc etc etc.
Well....turns out I wont spend pretty much any of that. I bought some tune-up stuff and started tearing her apart. Surprised to see that the timing belt, water pump, and everything under the covers looked almost brand new. Fluids also smelled and looked fresh, aside from the brake fluid. I was shocked, but thank god in a good way. This car was very well taken care of, there is no immediate maintenace needed and passed inspection with flying colors. The car even has almost brand new tires on it.
The thing rides very well, silky smooth, has no creaks or rattles, and even the stock sound system still pounds for a stock system! The car will get sideways and does burnouts pretty well. It also pulls really hard despite the age, I would suspect 93-95% of the power is still there surprisingly. It really feels more like a 40-50,000 mile vehicle.
So now your wondering...why is this a project? Well....cause im retarded and I cant leave well enough alone. So this will detail all the things I Will do to the vehicle to make it more comfortable, sexy, and daily driverish.
So far I have installed:
HIDs for the low beams
Hooked IPOD up to stock sound system, even did it preamp using docks, relays, RCAs, and wiring behind the dash. Sounds better than CD quality. I also wired up power for the dock behind the dash so it charges when the vehicle is on.
Parts Waiting in the garage to be installed:
Bilsteins and H&R springs
MB Drifter 18x9.5 Wheels going to be mounted with 225/40/18 (yes stretched)
Homelink Visor (controls garage through the visor, OEM)
Parts Wishlist (yes I created one to follow so I wouldnt go overboard on this car):
New Front and Rear Seats
Steering wheel (Blair said I could buy his I beleive, Blair? When can I pick that up?)
*Maybe* Supra Auto TT LSD
Lower Ball joint bushings (apparently common on these cars so ill take care of it now)
Since all maintenance has been done, I will drive it till I kill it, in which case I will decide wether to throw a 1jz auto in it, which I have already called Jhot will cost me all of 1250 with ECU, tranny, and engine including all accessories and wiring harness.

I loved sitting at the apartment and hearing DJ go "yeah I'm not putting any money into this car other than maintenance"...waiting two weeks and finding wheels, HID's, suspension, talk of diff and you know he's gonna get LS400 or Supra TT brakes.

damn I totally forgot, yeah the pads came in for the ls400 brakes, still gotta find the 4-pot calipers tho. And ive managed to find rotors at NAPA that have to be ordered but are cheap, ill just price match at advance auto.
I couldnt simply have 11-inch brakes under 18s, had to have at least decent looking ones.
Whatever, total investment is actually still at like 20 bucks for spark plugs, rest of the money has come from my paypal account from extra parts im selling.

hahah mods are almost done. Trust me, its staying automatic, staying full interior, and figuring out what springs to create the best ride. The mods that are being done are really to help with the look and comfortability. Including the cost of the car, ive spent a total of $3100 dollars. And im 90% done with what I want.
I have my car that is quick and fun on road courses, this thing is being set up to be as nice on the street as possible. I know how to control my money, remember I bought this thing instead of buying a brand new tundra and I had budgeted 500 for maintenance right of the bat that I didnt need. You guys get bad-ass tvs and game systems, new computers etc. I dont have any of that, my money is spent on this, and thats what I enjoy. Hell, I dont even own a tv aside from one my friend just gave me.

Awesome car though.. they are sexy
50 bucks for the very nice black steering wheel i have.. call me and get it anytime. they go for 100-150 on the forums all day

Holding up great to daily commuting and fucking around.
Boy is it a shitty autocrosser, and crappily classed too. 260lb ft of torque with an auto, no rear LSD, 225 all seasons, and 215k mile old suspension plus 3500 lbs does not equal a competitive car against...guess what? These are what its against...

yeah...but thats a bit ridiculous lol!! I dont think this car would even be all that competitive against SRT-4s which are the class below it.

The problem is that it's a "V8 MkIV Supra".
Try getting it reclassed on those grounds.
