True HID's in a Halogen housing - fiveoh2go - 04-25-2009

Thinking about buying an HID kit for my car. I know they will glare to a certain degree, although the housings on my car have a pretty decent cut-off line for what it's worth. Your thoughts.

i did it on the hatch because i literally couldn't see 10ft in front of it... $100 very well spent.

- Madden - 04-25-2009

do it, i had hids on my mustang and would do it again in a heartbeat.
helps out so much!

I am interested in it as well for my SVT. Just curious to hear how hard it is. Mikey, how did you get it done for 100$?

- Madden - 04-25-2009

for less than $500, i'd have to think you're getting the same basic thing.

Madden, ANY wire splicing at all or was it completely plug-n-play?

- ViPER1313 - 04-25-2009

Great for you, sucks for other people on the road. I voted do it.

- Madden - 04-25-2009

pretty sure it was all plug, no splicing.

people used to flash their lights at me in the s2000 as if i had my highs on (when i didn't). has never happened with this kit.

- Jeff - 04-27-2009

I put an HID kit on Ciro's Crossfire. It was pretty easy and was bright as hell! I think his kit was like $150. Only issue was it turned on the "you have a headlight out" light on the dash.

- Feersty - 04-30-2009

I don't even have that light. What kit did you get Jeff? What is required with the kit, do you need to dremel anything? splice wires?

Is this the one I remember only one headlight always working with?

Hmm, want to do this for my car. What's the consensus then? Is it more or less luck of the draw whether or not your car's halogen housing will do the job with HIDs?

Re: True HID's in a Halogen housing - Mike - 06-30-2009

i haven't heard of them not working for anyone.

+1. The only draw back I could see would be how bad your factory headlight housings scatter the light from the HID bulbs, thus creating glare for any oncoming traffic. '99-'04 Mustangs actually have a pretty good cutoff line so I'm not too worried about that when it comes time to finally do this.

Just something to think about.

Re: True HID's in a Halogen housing - Mike - 06-30-2009

if a '93 civic headlight works, i'd have to think anything modern would be ok

Some cars have terrible glare, some cars have terrible housing that just dont work. Some cars dont have sufficient wiring.

All in all, itll "work", but its not nearly going to be as good as an oem setup. Not nearly, cant flame too much tho, I run one in the SC400.
