"Welcome to Rockingham County... - A350Zisa - 04-22-2009 ...where they have to tell you NOT to hit your head on purpose"- the guy next to me in the ER last night. G-force go karting. a freaking awesome, great time all around. this past sunday when 20 of us went, i had a blast with everyone! until my 2nd run and i hit the wall in the back straight nearly head on, at full speed. my kart lifted off the ground and slammed back down, HARD. i did not black out at all, i kept going, and the referee guy throws up the "Dont hit the wall card" OBVIOUSLY!!!!!javascript:emoticon('') that crap hurts! i left the event before going back to Justin's house because i was feeling a little dizzy, and nauseous. i drove back to campus fine. monday morning i was really sore in my back and neck and i kept seeing a gray spot where ever i looked. not like when you see a bright light and that purple thing is there whenever you blink, but an actual gray spot. i started having headaches and could NOT remember for the life of me my reading the night before in class. Tuesday at dhall, i walked over to get some food and started to tip over. i felt like i needed brakes in order for my body to stop moving. any time i moved, i felt like my body had to catch up to me. with every step i took, the world shook a bit and i kept grabbing onto my girlfriend for balance, and anything else that was around me. i was starting to get pretty scared! we went to the ER and they gave me a CT scan to see if i broke my skull or had any bleeding in the brain. all good there! they did the "sobriety test" in the room and i could barely keep my balance, its a concussion!!! awesome. now i have to wait 2 weeks to really do anything. if i suffer another head trauma in that time frame, i will "permanently lose IQ," kind of like a boxer that gets hit in the head too many times. this is my second concussion. bummer! - Jake - 04-22-2009 That sucks Adam... at least it's not worse than what it is. Hope ya feel better soon, and be careful for the next two weeks. I don't know how much IQ there is to lose
- Goodspeed - 04-22-2009 Adam, really sorry to hear this, hope you feel better! I never would've imagined karting to lead to an injury like this, though its definitely plausible...I've hit head on like that before but thankfully I was OK. Just a reminder to everyone that even our fun goofing-off activities require safety... - Nis01 - 04-22-2009 Jeeze Adam, you must have really had a doozy of a hit. I'm glad to hear that you were able to make it back to Harrisonburg without any issues. Hope you feel better. - A350Zisa - 04-22-2009 haha thanks guys!!! yeah safety is required even on the fun days. and so Jake, that means i will NOT be autocrossing this weekend, i turn into a bobble head during my run anyway. way too much bouncing around. i am feeling better now, but just really tired. almost back to normal! thanks again for the concern! - Feersty - 04-24-2009 Wow that is crazy. I still have yet to go karting, because I am cheap. - Sijray21 - 04-24-2009 damn, that sucks man i feel you on concussions though - i've had plenty of them in my day, with my last one leaving my life in danger if i banged my head 2 weeks after the incident |
