Help! Jeep Problems!! - balactm - 04-13-2009 My girlfriend's jeep is acting up on her way back to cnu. about 10 miles out, the accelerator stopped working, she heard a (fft?) sound, and the power steering went out. she told me she topped off about half a gallon after the cutoff, and that gas was actually splashing on the ground, which caused her to stop over filling it. when the noise happened, her check oil light came on and so did her check engine light. the oil level is fine and the car was idling when she was pulled over. it drove fine the ten miles back to h-burg. any thoughts??? - Mike - 04-13-2009 all i've got is "don't top off." has nothing to do with the problem she experienced, though. - D_Eclipse9916 - 04-13-2009 Sounds like an ecu problem because of the multitude of problems, do jeeps typically have burned capacitors in their ecus? I mean a serpentine belt could have flown off killing the alternator resulting in no acceleration and power steering going out without a belt. Doesnt explain how the car could idle though. Is the power steering pump electric in those cars? I dunno, troubleshooting without seeing the vehicle is difficult. - balactm - 04-13-2009 mike - i agree. i'm just posting everything she told me that happened. DJ - serpentine is fine. power steering level is fine. no fluids leaking. it's weird. i'm gonna get the diagnostic done at advance today. jeff is gonna help me out with figuring out the code. - ViPER1313 - 04-13-2009 Sounds like the engine stalled and then restarted as she was coasting to a stop. Why it did this, I have no idea. No power steering, oil light and check engine light all point to a stalled or very slow revving (under 500rpm or so) motor while still moving. - Mike - 04-13-2009 ViPER1313 Wrote:Sounds like the engine stalled and then restarted as she was coasting to a stop. - balactm - 04-13-2009 turns out it was the tps on the obd-II. the guy said it has been happening a lot with cars lately because of the temperature changes. any thoughts? when she came here it was like 70 and this morning it was maybe 40. could that really make it do that? oh, and since driving it after the mishap it's been fine. - Goodspeed - 04-13-2009 LOL...stupid Harrisonburg weather affecting cars now? I've never heard of such a thing, but I wouldn't put it past this area and the ridiculous temp changes. |
