Looking for Suggestions New car - Ken - 02-27-2009

So I'm new here to MM but im looking to see what you guys think i should get for my next car (I current drive a 2006 Acura RSX). I've been mainly interested in the 09' Lancer Ralliart, 09' Jetta Wolfsberg/GLI or Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Anyway i'm open to any other suggestions but just to keep the following in mind

- I live in NY, i would like to be able to drive in the winter safely and confidently

- Prefer Four doors (although that's fairly flexible)

- My parents help me with half the cost of the vehicle, but only if it's new and on a lease. Yeah, i know, it's kind of ass backwards but that's the deal and pretty much the only way i can afford a car. I am greatly, greatly appreciative of it.

On a side note, when my current lease is up i plan on selling my head unit (JVC EXAD), corresponding IPOD interface (never used, i have a zune, and it's a legit one where it charges and can change songs via head unit) and my sony four-way speakers. So if anyone is interested in that, i will be selling it by May.

Hey, that's cool - at least you're open about it. Most of us have received help from the parents at some point with the cars.

First things that come to mind:
Subaru WRX

Mazdaspeed 3

both cars are very practical, seem to be fun, and excellent for auto-x's / track time Big Grin

I <3 My Speed3.

And I am *so glad* Mazda decided to wait until '09 to glue on all that tacky shit. Ugh!

Anyway, I would be a little concerned about the Genesis RWD in the wintertime. Not alot, but a little. I drove RWD in the winter all through college and never had a big problem, but mostly because I drove cautiously.

- ScottyB - 02-27-2009

proper winter tires make all the difference in the world.

i think the speed3 would make the most sense for you if you want 4 doors

- Mike - 02-27-2009

genesis coupe - doesn't fit the considerations you set out.
vw - it's a vw.
lancer - it's a mitsu.

+1 on speed3 or wrx.

pay off and own the perfectly good RSX instead of flushing $ away at a lease? Had to mention it....

- Jake - 02-27-2009

+4 MS3

Out of the three you mentioned, I'd probably snag the Jetta (in GLI trim though). The other two don't do much for me - though I haven't seen a Genesis in person so I can't pass a whole lot of judgement yet.

- Evan - 02-27-2009

WRX fits the bill perfectly.

MS3 would be nice...if the wrx didnt exist.

I love our MazadaSpeed3. Absolutely love it. I wish we could afford another one for me.

ever spent a decent amount of time in an rsx? they're not perfectly good. loud, cheap plastics, have to rev them to the roof to make them move. on paper they look great... in reality not so much.

while we're on the topic of acura... ungh... what are they doing these days? time for mikey to make a new thread.

- BLINGMW - 02-27-2009

sorry, my bad, a 3 year old Acura just sounds like a pretty nice student car. No wait, I mean a pretty nice car period, certianly from a reliability standpoint. :dunno: Clearly I'm out of touch.

Ok, maybe the RSX isn't his or it is no longer available to him for whatever reason, the deal available is the deal from his parents and he wants to take advantage of it. Game on!

You live in Roanoke.

:?:

True, it's still black and white here for christ sakes!

The fact that you own a personal motorized vehicle of any kind astounds me! Confusedhock:

Also, residents here can actually afford to buy a house (and maybe a convertible, weekend ox-cart), so there's actually something else worth spending our money on other than cars.

- HAULN-SS - 02-27-2009

heh..that's one of my favorite roanoke pictures

See Ryan, he understood my joke. Maybe you would if you weren't so hopped up on pills from your latest tragedy. I should have only quoted "Clearly I'm out of touch."

- WRXtranceformed - 02-27-2009

What is your budget? Will your parents help you with insurance costs too? That's something you'll want to factor in. The WRX and STI were expensive as shit for me to insure.

- Jake - 02-27-2009

Oh and PS - I noticed that your Acura has the wrong transmission installed  Will your new car have a manual?
