Eclipse intake problems - boomz - 07-28-2004

hey gusy just needed some advice... I have a check engine light turned on since i got the AEM cold air intake. Well when i got it checked the air pressure is too high. So in order to adjust that i need to get more fuel suplied. Here are my options get a mass air flow sensor or get mass fuel injectors and a high pressure fuel pump.. What do u think will work better. lemme knoe

I dont think installing a Cold Air Intake will throw a CEL for anything fuel related.

Air pressure too high? Sounds like BS... I'd reset the ECU and go from there.

Does the car use a MAF or MAP?

??? Reset the ecu like rj says. If the cel light persists get them to actually write down the code for you and find out what it really means.

reset that bitch!
w00t, CEL lights are fun!

never had one... *KNOCK ON MUTHAFUGGIN WOOD!*

check the cel yourself and look it up online... air pressure too high? gimme a break Tongue

your problem is most likely related to the flux capacitation on the inner turbulance seal. It just means you need a polished GSX intercooler to replace your current unit (assuming yours is turbo charged). Check the for sale section, I think someone has one for sale.

CEL's are mostly related to emmisions junk. probably a coincidence it came on when you put on your intake. your O2 sensor is prob. bad.

Don't listen to him.

what?
reset the ecu, then check the code yourself.

lol

Pull the codes. If its a newer model go to autozone or advance and tell them to check the codes for you. They do that crap for free

Yes and no... on OBD-II cars, anything emissions related will throw a code, but there are still other performance related things that can set it off.

Heres something that hasnt been mentioned yet.

Clean your MAF. Go to autozone or radioshack and get CDS electronics cleaner. Electromotive or the other stuff. Alot of times these pre-oiled filters that come with intake systems get oil on the MAF which can get it dirty, and then along with an oily MAF means that theres now a surface that debris can adhere too. This adds to the problem. Id try this first. Ive had this happen first hand and had a few friends with the same issue. This was mostly with K&N filters but could just as easily happen with any other oiled filter. Its worth a shot, even if its not the cause of the CEL youll still probably find that your MAF needed cleaning anyhow.

boomz:

What did you do with the large EVAP vacuum hose that was running to your original rubber intake pipe?

What model Eclipse is this?

yeah i should have made it more clear, kinda what RJ said. i havent had any experience with CEL's on OBDI cars, but on OBDII's it will often be emmsions.

- KPWSerpiente - 07-29-2004

It's a 420a. It has a map sensor.

Ahh, then he may not have had to deal with the EVAP hose at all. I'm not very edumacated with respect to the engine layout of the 420a.

I don't know much about the 420a either. But the cel and the install of the cold air have to be coincidental unless he messed something else up while doing it.

From my experience, blanket statements such as these only lead to a very long and tedious diagnosis.

As others have said: figure out what DTC the ECU is throwing.
