I THINK I'm starting to enjoy riding to work. You? - BLINGMW - 08-14-2008 I'm getting close to a year with the bike and I think I'm just starting to get comfortable on the street. I'm still riding like everyone's out to kill me, I'm just finding I can still have a little fun in that environment. Here's one unique thing I realized today that really made my day... It made me wonder, what unique, enjoyable things do you like about using a motorcycle to get around? 1) There is a JUMP on the way to work. Train tracks with ramps on either side. Jumping it in a car wouldn't be advisable (I've tried), cars just have to slow down and get annoyed by it. But I can GET AIR, if only for a fraction of a second on my daily commute! Without speeding (much) even.
- DavidM - 08-14-2008 I enjoy riding as much as I can. IMO riding is a lot more fun than driving, in terms of everyday use (I still prefer 4 wheels for performance driving but I think thats probably just a confidence issue for now). Oh yea, I also like getting nearly 60 mpg
- .RJ - 08-14-2008 I dont like riding to work every day anymore. I did it for a year at my current job, and it became more hassle than anything else for many reasons - my commute is 7 miles of bumpy ~25-30mph with a bunch of stoplights. I then park in a garage and it takes 10 minutes to walk to the building and then to my desk - a pain carrying my jacket/gloves/helmet/messenger bag. Taking the bike doesnt save any time or money and I've had more close calls with degenerate asshole car drivers on my commute route than I can count. I do ride whatever Honda CB I've got running in on Fridays but thats it. Really the problem here is that I need to find a new place to work. This year has been a crapshoot for riding for me for other reasons too. Hopefully I'll have a new bike of some sort next year. - Sijray21 - 08-14-2008 when i used to ride more frequently i loved riding to work. i would only ride on nice days and the roads were pretty sweet (at the time, almost the entire length of lawyers rd. in oakton/vienna). it's great for the fuel economy, it's fun, and it's easier to manuver in traffic. when i work locally and have a motorcycle i fully intend to commute to work on the bike. i like the variety and the option to take whatever vehicle i want to though. - PGK - 08-15-2008 I don't consider riding to work anything special. Probably two thirds of my total personal mileage has been commuting. Actually, it's hard for me to imagine owning/riding a motorcycle without using it as basic transportation. - Apoc - 08-17-2008 .RJ Wrote:I dont like riding to work every day anymore. +1 for pretty much all the same reasons. I'd like to ride to work for obvious reasons but efforts are not rewarded when it's 4 miles each way and most of your time is spent at one particular traffic light. - Kaan - 08-25-2008 I commute 25 miles one way. I get around 50mpg... so its not bad just burning one gallon a day. also on the route i have to take, a couple of times a week there is major traffic. I can just pop off, split, or ride the shoulder for a while... so overall i think its a faster commute for me
- WRXtranceformed - 08-25-2008 Is it legal to ride the shoulder in VA? It is in NC, you're allowed to ride the lines too. - .RJ - 08-25-2008 WRXtranceformed Wrote:It is in NC, you're allowed to ride the lines too. Its legal in NC, or people just do it? - WRXtranceformed - 08-25-2008 My friend said it's legal, I dunno though. - Kaan - 08-25-2008 Its not legal... but with a busted Madmax FZR bike... you can always claim its having issues! - Evan - 08-25-2008 almost hit a moron on a scooter on friday. lane splitting, traffic dodging, running red lights, cutting cars off etc. this type of shit is normal for cyclists but this guy was actually moving fast |
