Following the decision, in the last contact with his wife, Mellin sent a text message reading, "Congratulations, XXX."
The businessman then reportedly tied one end of a rope he kept in his Aston Martin convertible to a tree and wrapped the other end of it around his neck as he sat in the driver's seat. He then drove the car at a high speed onto a busy road, forcing other drivers to witness his violent suicide, the Mail said.
Phillip Rogers, the coroner assigned to the case, ruled the cause of death as decapitation.
"I'm satisfied this was a deliberate attempt by Mr. Mellin to kill himself."

That is awesome. My buddy and I envisioned the best suicide one night when we were drunk though, one that will trump this guy!
The scene: I-77 to I-485 in south Charlotte. Basically a long straight highway that has an easy long merge into a huge sweeping offramp into 485. The offramp is probably a hundred feet in the air, sloping all the way up to its peak when it turns to merge down into the highway.
Our plan: To avoid becoming old and senile, we will choose an appropriate age to die... 65? I will purchase a C6 Z06 or similarly fast car that is out at that point, install a twin turbo kit with a huge shot of nitrous on top. My buddy will purchase a Hyabusa and turbocharge and nitrous the bike.
We will start about 2 miles out from the offramp. A call will be made to the local news agencies about a planned street race that will go wrong. Helicopters will hopefully be deployed. We street race and peg the speedometers.
The kicker: The trunk of my car will be filled entirely with fireworks, red white and blue ones and the ones that look like stars when they blow up. My buddy will have the same fireworks in a backpack on his bike.
With the news copters and probably cops watching / chasing, we race all the way to the highest point in the offramp and then BOOM!! Huge firey explosion, much patriotic fireworks, and two last wills that ask for the video footage to be displayed on YouTube with the title: Fuck the Taliban: America Is Best At Everything Including Martyrdom!
