Cell Phones and Service - Sijray21 - 07-26-2004

Hello people,

Alright i'm looking into getting a new contract with a new cell phone provider. I was just wondering the following about your service:

Coverage Provider
Minutes in your plan
Price of your plan
Coverage Quality (do you always get service, always in and out of service, etc.) **most important for me, esp in the Nova area**
Customer Service

Currently i have Sprint and i do not have service in my own house and many places in northern va. I don't know if it's my phone (samsung a460) or my service.

I was pretty much set on Verizon, but one of my friends just got AT&T and has 700 anytime minutes / unlimited nights/weekends in the Northeast area and only pays $40/month. So that's what's making me reconsider other companies such as AT&T, T-Mobile, etc. I was just mostly concerned about coverage area (i would like service around nova all the time and h-burg). Thanks!

It's probably a combo of the two. I have sprint as well, and have no service in my townhouse, yet I have perfect service at all my friend's houses (go figure), and there's a few dead spots in NoVA.

Sprint phone coverage and customer service blows ass.

Must just suck for you cause I've never had problems with their customer service, and only have coverage problems in select areas. Man up and buy a real phone and you won't have these problems.

But he can't afford one! He needs to save for his next ding removal session.

I hate both of you.

I probably get the shitty customer service because I dont spend $400 every year on a new phone and 100000000 minutes a month like matt Wink

I have sprint, and their reception is amazing for the most part. I am trying to switch though, just because sprint's phones SUCK the big one. I'm probably going either Verizon or AT&T.

I do not yet have a cell phone. My 17 year old brother has one, go figure.

that's where i'm going as well. I've had sprint for about 4 years now and i'm not happy with the coverage area around my area.

I've been there and done all the major ones. I'm ryan on this one Sprint blows a big fat one. AT&T is great, if only I got coverage. So far the best for me was Verizon. Talking price is useless, there is always some 'new' deal, just check the websites. I tend to stick w/ the big three Verizon, AT&T and Sprint. Those 'others' tend to have smaller networks and I do a lot of traveling to less populated areas so a GSM only phone doesn't work for me. So far I've only been to 1 place were my Verizon phone didn't work and that was in WVa.

I have n-telos.

For the Shenadoah valley, it rocks my socks off.

Other places, it blows nuts.

Sprint
300 anytime
free nights/weekends
$31 a month
Never had to use customer service much cause I've never really had any problems. Had to replace my phone one time and it was no hassle at all.
As for coverage, I get service pretty much anywhere I go, unless its way out in the boonies.

- Evan - 07-26-2004

Jay I have Sprint with an A460 and am content with it.
Oddly enough about 6 months ago the coverage seemed to get worse by a little bit, but doesnt affect it much.
Let me know if you do switch providers and are going to ditch your phone. I could use a new one and I love the 460 Smile

i don't think you want my phone, lol, it's pretty banged up. At one point i was very drunk and wearing sweat pants and decided to run....bad idea. Phone in left hand i fell hard, mostly landing on the phone, luckily the back of it. For some reason it help a lot with battery life :?: :?: ....but it looks like crap.

i've also noticed the coverage area getting worse as time goes by, atleast when compared to last year.

same here, and i also have the a640, my only complaint with sprint is that all their new phones are either garbage or the newest hottest cameragamingdeviceBBQtvmicrowavephone which i dont "need", other than that i get great coverage even way up in RI (yes we have electricity and phones up there)

o and disregard jack he is just bitter because they sorta screwed him ONCE and he wants the same service as his girlfriend Big Grin

John and I had Verizon when we were up in NoVa. We covered a pretty decent range with it- into DC, the 'Burg, out into the boonies (western VA) to visit my parents. We switched to ALLTEL because we couldn't get service in the Charlottesville area when we moved.
My only advice on Verizon is DON'T deal with the asshats who work at the Verizon stores in NoVa. Base your plan from somewhere else... I had the worst experience with this st00pid woman trying to set up our phones last summer. We gave up and went to Winchester- great service, quick, really nice people.

Doesnt ALLTELL work off Verizion towers...

I have Verizion because I goto mason, and you can actually get service. With Sprint I was analog in my own damn dorm...

navin Wrote:Doesnt ALLTELL work off Verizion towers...

No- works the other way around. Verizon roams off ALLTELL towers.

that's weird, so alltell can't use verizon towers, but verizon can roam off alltell's?

- JessicaRabbit79 - 07-28-2004

Perhaps I should rephrase this. Smile ALLTELL has towers down here in the Charlottesville area. So, when we had our Verizon phones, we were roaming off ALLTELL towers. I think that when we are other places, that we may roam off Verizon... it probably works both ways, just depending on where you are! Sorry for any confusion.
