Project SV650 - .RJ - 07-06-2008 Some of you may remember, I bought an SV650 track bike last year: http://mmsports.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6811 When I tossed it into the grass at the last event of last year, one of the frame slider bolts pulled out of the engine case and I broke the shift lever so it was time to take a look at the rest of the bike and tear it down. Unfortunately I found a LOT of things that were poorly assembled, left loose, etc all over the bike. So I took it all apart  ![]() ![]() ![]() Got a big chunk of the work done today, and should be able to finish up this week. - JackoliciousLegs - 07-07-2008 I love these pictorials you've been posting up here. I just wish I were there to see the magic happen. - .RJ - 07-07-2008 JackoliciousLegs Wrote:I just wish I were there to see the magic happen. The magic of old busted motorcycles? I tore the bike down because of the questionable things I found while looking it over - I had to know just how deep the rabbit hole went. Its not so bad and mostly needed a bunch of maintenance items and cleaning up some 'interesting' engineering. - Kaan - 07-07-2008 i heard a rumor... let me know if you want a hand with remaking somethings or fixing the "engineering" on it
- .RJ - 07-07-2008 The replacement subframe is rubbish, its going back on ebay. It will be much cheaper to 'fix' the stock one and I cant srsly get worried about a few extra lbs on the motorcycle. - .RJ - 08-14-2008 Lots more stuff has been done... new wheel bearings, cleaned/greased the chassis bearings, flush the fluids. Nearly ready for the track :!: Stock subframe installed and seat support "fabricated" ($10 Al flat stock from home depot, bench vice and a drill). Its more better. I picked up a spare set of carbs to set up with some different jetting - tearing carbs apart at the track is a horrible idea (IMO) so I picked up another set. Seriously what could go wrong here  Measure your shims... Installed  - PDenbigh - 08-14-2008 Woot! Did you add a rice capacitor? - Mike - 08-14-2008 alright, i'm scared. how much for you to clean my carbs if i drop it off?

It lights off at 88mph if i put the liquid schwartz in the gas tank ![]() Mike Wrote:alright, i'm scared. how much for you to clean my carbs if i drop it off? I dunno, some bicycle work? (If you drop off the carbs... not the whole bike  ) - Mike - 08-14-2008 your bicycle is fine. - .RJ - 08-14-2008 Mike Wrote:your bicycle is fine. Translation: I dont want to take the carbs off of the VFR  - Mike - 08-14-2008 weeeeeeeeeeee - .RJ - 08-14-2008 I dont blame you, 'cause I dont want to do it either ![]() Its easier than swapping transmissions.... - .RJ - 08-30-2008 This thing needs more HP. I broke the throttle tube in half at the track today  Fortunately the guy pitted next to me had a suzuki, and had a spare... saved my weekend. Back to the track tomorrow  - Evan - 08-30-2008 .RJ Wrote:This thing needs more HP.so you can go twice as fast? - .RJ - 08-30-2008 30-40 more hp would sure make chasing down those damn 600's easier
- Apoc - 08-30-2008 So you can win DE? - .RJ - 08-30-2008 Of course
- .RJ - 08-31-2008 I tried some different carb jetting today at the track and picked up some power - bike was more fun to ride this way Bike was fun and trouble free all weekend - very nice to have with almost 5 hrs of track time available over 2 days. I need to figure out how to put a 600 motor in the frame. Or a supercharger. Or something.- PGK - 09-08-2008
