My new car! - Jake - 06-24-2008

After a few months of Craigslist and eBay searches, some test drives and inspections of "not-the-ones," I finally found "the one" and bought it this afternoon... a '95 Miata, black on black!

Picture from the seller (mine coming soon):

It's a 5-speed with the Popular Equipment package - so, power windows/mirrors, cruise control, headrest speakers, A/C, a Torsen LSD, and maybe (it was an option) ABS. The seats were originally black cloth but were recovered at some point in decent black leather. A/C is cold and the top is good too. It'll need a new back window at some point.

The local Mazda dealer checked it out and the biggest mechanical problem is that it needs new wiper blades. I'm Owner #3 and took ownership at only 72,880 miles.

Needless to say, I'm WAY excited! Drove all the way home from Williamsburg with the top down and at a steady 70-75 mph, managed 28 miles per gallon.

More pictures coming tomorrow  Thanks for all the help that y'all have given me... I'm looking forward to the upcoming semester and actually being able to drive at the events!

Nice pick up man, it looks like a clean car!! Patience won out for you it looks like Wink

Cough, refer to my old new car thread for my MPG update... just goes to show how much new technology makes a big difference! 3.5L > 1.8L Tongue

- Jake - 06-24-2008

Thanks! Yeah, patience definitely won out in the end.

As far as the MPGs, I'm happy with anything better than the Escape (~20). I should see about 30 on the highway if I keep it at 60-65, and about 28 around town. Oh, and about 15 on an autocross Wink

- Dave - 06-24-2008

I'm a little jealous :-) Patience definitely paid off on this one it would seem...

- Beej - 06-25-2008

Good pickup!

I never really understood why Miata's got such bad mileage. Tiny motor, tiny car...I don't see why they shouldn't be getting mid-upper 30's on the highway.

- Sijray21 - 06-25-2008

congrats man - looks like a great find! :-D

- Goodspeed - 06-25-2008

Congrats Jake! I call dibs on first auto-x ride along....

- ScottyB - 06-25-2008

thats a really nice example of an NA miata, nice job!

- CaptainHenreh - 06-25-2008

Fantastic! It looks great.

Try 4,000 rpm at 70-ish mph, and you'll get it Confusedhock: The gearing is just really short, I think. It could use a 6th gear for "overdrive" sort of things on the highway.

- REED - 06-25-2008

wow - looks real clean - glad everything worked out for you

- Maengelito - 06-25-2008

Nice Miata Jake! Time to get a rollbar and some good brakes and we'll see you at the track!

Not only is the gearing pretty short, but it's about as aerodynamic as a cinderblock. Especially with the top down.

Bling on Smile

When's the first track day with it?

- Evan - 06-25-2008

My pictures... - Jake - 06-25-2008

Here's some quick snaps from this evening in the driveway... once I get some free time I need to clean the interior a bit more. Aside from that, she's pretty clean:

that looks incredible!

how long was this on the market? i think i remember some of those shots (if not, they look very similar to other shots i've seen of another black miata)

- Jake - 06-26-2008

It actually wasn't on the market at all yet. He bought it back in 2000 from the original owner in FL, and was going to put it up on July 1. I happened to have had a Wanted to Buy ad up on Miata.net, and he saw that and emailed me.

- DavidL - 06-26-2008

Congrats man!!! I know you have been looking for a while, glad you finally found the ONE! Welcome to the New Car club!!!

- CaptainHenreh - 06-26-2008
