Oh hey bike guys,
So I'm installing a slipper clutch into the 2001 R6 motor that we're using on our FSAE car and I need to be slightly enlightened in art of the slipper clutch. Our instructions are translated from Swedish and the guy I talked to at the company we bought it from is slightly less than helpful.
In the installation booklet says that after torquing down the bolts that hold on the pressure plate, it should be able to rotate by hand. The guy on the phone made it sound like the clutch should just spin freely (flick it and it spins), but that doesn't make sense to me because the clutch plates will still be brushing against each other. If I engage that clutch and turn the crank with a wrench it spins, just not "flick it and it spins freely".
I think we're ok, it's working correctly, and the guy we talked doesn't really know whats going on, but it would be great to get some input form you guys.

The clutch will never freely spin when torqued down to the engine. The slipper clutch might spin free if you can manually disengage it but I'm not sure how you would do that - I assume its a standard ramp style clutch.

Agreed. It is a ramp style slipper clutch.
I just called them back so I could talk to them personally and make sure there was no confusion and we figured it is working correctly. Most worthless thread ever? Quite possibly.
Side note: We're currently filming a time lapse of the entire car being put together after it was completely taken apart to paint the frame. I'll throw it up on youtube and send a link to you guys when we finish and edit the video. It's going to be pretty awesome.
