WTB: Old road bike - Mike - 05-24-2008

Please, everyone, if you spot your neighbor throwing out an old bike, or you find one listed somewhere, let me know...

Trying to make a sweet little single-speed commuter.

Needs to be a steel frame, needs to be a road bike, needs to not have vertical or fixed dropouts (the slot the rear wheel mounts in to), needs to be a fairly large size.

Will buy dinner for he or she who finds a bike I end up buying.

Oh yeah, needs to be free or less than $100. A good example: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/bik/693397088.html">http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/ ... 97088.html</a><!-- m -->

Thanks!

nice find... thanks. 59cm might be a touch small for me, but i'll give it a shot.

Where are you getting the fixed gear parts? I need to get mine together.

- BLINGMW - 05-24-2008

out of curiosity.... why single speed? :dunno:

step 1. find frame
step 2. worry about all the other shit Tongue

discussion about local shops who carry stuff: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.more-mtb.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11026">http://www.more-mtb.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11026</a><!-- m -->

chan: singlespeed = lighter, nothing to keep in tune...

- Ginger - 05-25-2008

Are you building a fixie, or a singlespeed? If you're running a singlespeed, you can just fit a singulator to a standard frame and be set. It would seriously increase your frame options, too (I'd love to see a singlespeed TCR, or ~2000 OCLV done up SS). I used to commute on a brakeless fixie, though, and it was pretty hoss, so I'm a bit partial.

- Mike - 05-25-2008

i think i'm gonna start ss. if it's not all i was hoping for, maybe try fixie... or mabe build two bikes... they're cheap enough.

- Mike - 05-27-2008

saw that last night. little relaxed for what i'm looking for, but couldnt hurt to add it to the collection.

this looks like it might be a cool event: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=6149">http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=6149</a><!-- m --> i won't be around for it, unfortunately.

- Mike - 05-27-2008

This 'vintage' thing is going to get tiresome quickly... Wink

That's fixie is nice... but I'm with you, I don't think it's $600 nice. Escpecially since that's SO not the point of a fixed gear. You might as well go buy a factory track bike (Pista, Trek TX, etx)

- Ginger - 05-27-2008

It's imaqe #1 on google images "greaser." Emo kids dont' wear white t-shirts, Marlin Brando leathers, and Travolta hair.

- .RJ - 05-27-2008

Well that dude (?) looks like a fruit with a lip ring and greased hair.

If any of you ever see me looking like that please punch me sqware in the nuuuutz and shave my head immediately.

- Ginger - 05-27-2008

What if you look worse? Wink

- .RJ - 05-27-2008

Not possible, thats bottom of the dumpster right there :lol:

- HAULN-SS - 05-27-2008

just a side note - this girl that I used to know that dated a guy that i was friends with (then crapped on him..some of you have heard the story) used to be the #1 GIS result for "goth"

- Mike - 05-27-2008
