MM Karting Track Day - G.Irish - 05-18-2008

We've been karting for awhile, and now there is more than a handful of MM members who are pretty quick. For that reason I've been thinking that we should try to put together an event at an outdoor kart track that rents out faster karts.

Englishtown Raceway in New Jersey has a parking lot kart track that they hold open practices on. They also rent out several different karts up to a 125 cc shifter.

I'm thinking maybe we could do a karting track day with a 100 cc direct drive kart and split the track time up among a couple of different guys. The 100 cc kart has about 26 hp so it's going to be lot more fun and challenging to drive. For the whole day (6 hours of track time) it costs $275.

We could split the time up in 15 minute sessions:
4 people - 1.5 hrs each ($68.75)
6 people - 1 hr each ($45.83)
8 people - 45 minutes each ($34.75)

A 6 person split would probably what I'd go for. These karts are probably going to be a lot more physically demanding than the ones we've been driving so 1.5 hours per person might be pushing it.

Here's the site: http://fulltiltracing.com/index.html

Who's interested?

Sounds like it'd be fun. I think I'd be in for that.

- .RJ - 05-18-2008

I'm in. Andrew is going in the wall

Innnnn

great idea G

- Dave - 05-18-2008

very interested

- Nis01 - 05-18-2008

Interested as well. Looking forward to hearing some more information/plans.

Very cool idea G, I've been itching to try both a faster kart and an outdoor track. Is this facility in NJ the closest available? Mind holding this off until the school starts up for students? 15 extra dollars compared to G-Force for a much faster kart outdoors will surely be tempting to most, if not all members

- G.Irish - 05-18-2008

All right the next step is the scout out the dates and make contact. I'll do that next week. I think they have an open practice day every Saturday in June.

Students are free to come do it now, and I'm sure we could do it again when school starts again if people are interested.

I may be interested but I'm going on a diet first. You skinny, broke college punks are not going to be faster...... I'll be lighter than Evan and will kick a$$

I've got 40 lbs on andrew so I'm just going to punt him in Turn 1 on Lap 1.

- G.Irish - 05-19-2008

Keep in mind that we'd just be renting one kart so we're not gonna be on track at the same time, unless you guys want to pay more and rent multiple karts (I don't know how many they have).

I guess I'll also have to ask if they have transponders so we can record lap times. Still waiting for a reply to my first email.

- PDenbigh - 05-19-2008

I'm very interested. In fact I'd be interested in splitting a kart or at worst going 1/3's on one for a little more time. It's a long enough drive I'd want to make sure I came back really, really, tired.

- G.Irish - 05-20-2008

Ok I just made contact and got some more details.

*We can split a kart but it costs $50 extra per person.

*The track time is split into run groups so it wouldn't actually be 6 hours of track time if only one person is in the kart. So for instance if you are in group A, you might drive for 20 minutes or 30 minutes per hour. But if you split it up, driver 1 could be in group A, then driver 2 could be in group B.

*No damage deposit but we are responsible if someone wads it up

*He said he's had people split a kart 4 ways and they were happy with the track time.

*No driver experience requirements but everyone has to do a 10 minute orientation session on track.

So my guess is we should split each kart 3 or 4 ways. A 3 way split is $125 each, a 4 way split is $106.25 each.

If that is a bit too expensive for some, there are also 9 hp karts available.

The available dates are:

June 28
July 5
July 12
July 19
Aug 2

I don't have any particular preference on date.

- Ole - 05-20-2008

August! I need time to loose the weight! and this week is out already as i am way to sore to even walk.......

- G.Irish - 05-22-2008

I'd rather go a little bit sooner than later so that everyone will want to go again when school starts and more students wanna jump on board. The first 3 dates would be my choice, maybe July 12th now that I think about it.

- G.Irish - 05-27-2008

Ok guys, don't everyone answer at once. Who's in and when do they want to go?

- PDenbigh - 05-27-2008

G you better not go on June 28th.... I think you have a conflict...*poke*?

I'm in, but it'd have to be the Aug date. Too much going on between now and then.

- missmotocross3 - 05-27-2008

I'll go. Englishtown is a great place...and they have a kickass motocross track Smile
