Pulling tranny from 91 325i - stevegula - 05-15-2008 Anyone have any pointers on pulling a transmission from a 91 325i? I've got a coworker going through the process and he's pretty sure he's removed all of the bolts but just can't seem to get it to disconnect. He's going to double check that he removed all of the bolts but I figured I'd ask here. He's a competent guy and does all of his work on his BMWs (near same year M5) and does autocrossing so this shouldn't be out of his realm of ability. But maybe someone may know something small he could have missed. - BLINGMW - 05-15-2008 Even the one or two on the top that are really freaking hard to get to and require every extension you can find? If he's 100% sure he's removed everything, then just start banging on it I guess.... but my guess is that those top ones are still in there. Loosen up the engine mounts and he should be able to tilt the whole thing down to get at them better. - Beej - 05-15-2008 Yeah, the ones up top are a complete pain in the dick. There's a couple torx ones up there and the two starter bolts (which are even worse to get on than they are to get off). I forget if I'm confusing my buddy's 325 with my 318...I think one of them had a bolt on the passenger side that you pulled from the 'front' of the tranny - it went through a metal sheet or something different than a mounting point. Sorry, it was a long time ago... - xvxax - 05-16-2008 I used a 3' extension and 2 universal joints on that bitch. |
