speeding ticket on 81 - l33t Mr2 - 05-01-2008

So, I got a speeding ticket on 81 last week driving to the verona autocross. I was doing 78 in the 60mph 18 over the speed limit. What sucks is I wasn't really consistantly speeding, I just went around to pass a guy and at that 5 second interval where I was speeding I went passed a freaking copper whom then gave me a ticket. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do or tell the prosecutor to possibly get this thing reduced... a lot.

18 over isn't worth a lawyer... just pay it.

81 is always a gamble....even passing, i try to never do more than 5 over

I drive it all the time, and must just get lucky. I keep it about 10 over usually and have only gotten one ticket in like 5 years, and that was a B.S. legitimate 72 in a 65

edit: btw, where is the 60mph zone? are you talking about the one right there at JMU?

From my experience, if you're driving a good ole boy special, you won't get ticketed. It's the imports that get tagged.

Fixed that. Avoid that DWA...

Does a lunchbox count as a domestic? I don't think RJ should be giving advice about how to get out of a speeding ticket.

The guy I posted a link for got a reckless ticket knocked down for me last year to 9 over and a $100 fine.

reckless is understandable. the difference between 9 over and 18 over is negligible. if he's trying to save money, he should just pay the ticket.

So is the ticket in Rockingham County/Harrisonburg or another jurisdiction?

that very same thing happened to me, all of it, down to the 78mph. only i was just trying to get my 92HP up the damn hill. eh, i'll call ask to find out how much and pay. my mistake, no use in fighting it.

Find out before you get a lawyer. Some insurance companies consider 15+ over the speed limit as reckless in their book, even if you don't get a reckless ticket from the cops. It's lame. I forget which company I had to deal with that did that.

i've seen some of the reports from my insurance company, they classify speeding in a few categories, 1-5, 5-10, 11-15, and 15+. Reckless is a speparate category.

I'd just pay it if it's not reckless - unless you can find a cheap/free lawyer

I drove up and down from NoVa like twice a month for 4 years. I kept the speedo pegged at 13 over the whole time. No tickets.

Haha wow thats a little much. I drive to Roanoke and back (100 miles of 81) at least once a month and I've never had any problems.

No exhaust tickets or speeding either averaging 10-12 over
