2008 Laguna Seca MotoGP - 7/18-20 - Apoc - 03-24-2008

I know I'm a few years late to the game but I'm actually planning on going this year. I think Imma go regardless since I'll be in CA that weekend, but is anyone actually gonna go this year?

I'll likely fly into SFO Friday night, drive down and then head back to San Jose to meet up with the wife Sunday night.

Yeah I think I'm going to stay at a hotel in Salinas this year. I don't know who else is going but I'd be down to split the hotel. It'll probably be $700-1000 including tax. I've done the camping thing, the RV thing, and the hotel-1-hour-away thing, I think I'll try the hotel-close-to-the-track thing this year.

That would be my preference but I'd prolly only need it for Fri and Sat night.

Aight, is anyone still in for Laguna? There are hotels in Salinas but we'd need to move pretty quick. Right now there is

Motel 6: $65/night - $260 total
Inns of California - Salinas: $132/night - $526 total
Holiday Inn Express Salinas - $152/night - $705 total

So Chris for you it would be $60, $130 or $150 for you if we split it. Right now airfare is not bad but I'm kind of on the fence about things because Dorna is not going to grant me credentials this year (well, not unless I give them 1000 Euros).

I'm flying into SFO/SJC that Friday night regardless to visit the wife's family. I'm undecided about whether to do Sat and Sun and if I do both, whether to stay local or drive back to stay free in San Jose.

If I had to go just Sunday, by myself, I'll still be there. I wouldn't mind actually knowing someone but I've decided I owe it to myself to go regardless of who is with me. Andy will be living in SFO as of the race and I'm trying to talk him into going too.

I really want to go but I won't be able to give a firm yes/no until we get there.

- G.Irish - 06-04-2008

It's about a 1.5 hour drive to San Jose so it's doable, but that's not including race traffic. It has gotten better over the years but you'd still have to catch the bus into Monterey to go pick up your car, then deal with outbound traffic. Doable, but might be a pain.

What would the alternative be if I came down Saturday and stayed overnight?

- G.Irish - 06-05-2008

What do you mean?

- Apoc - 06-05-2008

In other words... I don't know anything about the area. if I came down Saturday, is it a case of leaving the car somewhere and just shuttling back/forth to the hotel?

- G.Irish - 06-05-2008

Well the hotel is about 20 minutes away so you'd probably just leave the car at the hotel and we'd drive on down to the bus stop to get to the track.

When is that anyway?

We're scheduled to hit SF a day or two before that weekend. Joan thinks its cool so long as we're settled. But if Montana or Oregon is cool, we might just stretch the trip longer.

Damn... I thought you'd originally planned to be there like 2-3 weeks before that.
