Decided to replace the busted head unit in the 240sx with one of the head units I had lying around this spring break. Wired up an old Alpine 9284 cd player that I had only to discover a bizarre problem.
All speakers work when using the radio. But only the front speakers work when playing a CD. If I faded the sound all the way to the rear, there would be no sound.
So I know all speakers are hooked up correctly, but something's causing the head unit to not push any sound out through the rear speakers in CD mode (yes I've tried several different CDs).
Any thoughts?

I'm sure others know more, but one time when i was wiring something up I accidentally had the remote wire going going to something other than the amp, and got kind of a similar problem.

Hes right, if the rears are hooked though an amp (factory or otherwise) and you don't have blue/white from the player hooked to the cars amp turn on wire it will cut out. You probably have blue hooked to blue...this is is not right, the radio's blue/white needs to be hooked to blue on the harness going into the car.
Blue = power antenna (off when not in radio mode)
Blue/White = amp turn out (12v when player is on in any mode)

good to know, now i think i know why my power antenna isn't working.
on another note: my amp isn't working in my car anymore. i have the blue/white remote wire hooked up to the blue turn-on wire of the amp. Fuse for amp isn't blown and amp is not responsive.
history: i had the amp/sub hooked up and worked fine for a while. i took out the sub to allow for more room and now amp doesn't get power (LED isn't lighting up). Any ideas?
Other specs: Pioneer HU, RF amp, RF wiring
ps - sorry for the hijack, but it seems as if your issue is fixed ;-)

can anyone find out what's wrong with my amp or system? is it just blown? if so, how does an amp blow if it's not being used?

Did you leave the power to it even while it was never pulling current? Could've burned something out that way.

Get a meter and see if you are getting good power and ground at the amp. If you have good ground and power on both the main and the p-con/turn-on then its internal. An amp can just go bad...the fact that it isn't in frequent use doesn't mean its safe.
