Jeff Morrison and MM are 2007 WINNERS! - NASAlaura - 02-25-2008

Congratulations to Jeff Morrison, our winner of the 2007 Spirit of NASA award! He started with NASA as a flagger and has worked almost every job/position we have with incredible enthusiasm and a great attitude. He has worked grid and Start and most recently has become our announcer (and pace car driver when needed!!!). He knows how to "wing it" with the rest of us and always does things with a smile and sense of humor. And one of the other best things about him was bringing Sylvia his girlfriend to help in registration Big Grin The events would not run as smoothly without the both of them. THANKS JEFF!!!!!!

AND..............

Congratulations to Madison Motorsports for being 2007 Worker of the Year!!!! Since 2001, MM has provided countless wonderful staff members to help run our events. At any particular weekend, we have at least 5 MMers and sometimes as many as ten or more! MM has provided 4 previous workers of the year including Gerald Irish, Matthew Leech, Kaan Canturk and Jess Chapin. It is an amazing partnership and we couldn't have made the growth we have and run the fun events we do without your help. I do think that the comraderie of all the staff is what makes NASA Mid-Atlantic truly special and you guys are a big part of that.

If any MMers want to come see what fun we all have.......please e-mail me about the upcoming March event!

THANKS AGAIN!!!!
Laura Cobetto

(P.S......I am going back to bed after a long, exhausting but FUN event! Matt, don't you ever smack me again! I HATE DUKE!!!! And Sylvia, I hope to treat you to another Pink Fetish drink at the tavern in March!!!.................)

Awesome!

As I had just finished typing the first post, I received an e-mail from the mother of one of our HPDEers this past weekend. This letter speaks to how well the staff works together to make the events fun for everyone. Thanks again to MM and all the staff this weekend.

Edit: the instructor's name is Brady Wooddell below.

Laura Cobetto

Laura, Chris, Sean and All!

I want to thank you for the time you spent prior to our attending HPDE-1 as my son had
the time of his life! and has ignited the Passion in his soul!

Last fall, when looking for a safe, fun, family experience for a Christmas present for my
high school son, Chris, was patient enough to answer ALL my questions and provide guidance
to the most memorable weekend for the three of us, in our life! Without his personal interest
and commitment we might never have arrived. Laura, your follow up and kind manner continued
to guide me through preparation, even while we were on the road the night before the big day,
and Sean's prompt emails to my son and I just made us feel so welcome.

Upon arrival, we were pleased and awestruck. We were able to attend the seminars with our son
which gave me such an added confidence that this is exactly what we were looking for and then
upon meeting his instructor, Brady Woodruff (msp?) I was certain it would be a dream come true!

Our son did well! We made friends and future plans! We had a great time and took great pictures
and had a relaxed, comfortable, family environment. This is what racing should be about! After
having visited several local places, dragstrips, and seeing drugs, alcohol, bad language, scantily
clothed young girls and more of the rif raf...I was doubtful I would ever feel comfortable with
my son in this sport or career but after feeling the "love" of NASA and the "discipline" of VIR
I am definitely one of your biggest fans and applaud your efforts in growing a family sport and
education for young drivers.

Three cheers for the Mid Atlantic...and please make sure Brady's name is spelled correctly and forward
my email to whomever would best benefit your efforts.

Thank you.

Laura Wink donÔÇÖt bring that kid around MM then... you know how we like naked women and booze! haha!

Some of us "older" MMers have been a staple at the track. You can almost bet we are there... But I'd really like to thank the current officers of MM for their involvement and pushing current students to attend and work NASA events. Lindsey, Dave, Rex, Julie, Jeff, "Crazy Bitch," DJ, etc... All of you guys helped make this happen.

I heard the rumor that Jeff was going to get an award... we rallied the troops to go support Jeff in getting his award. I think most of us were surprised when we all got called up for the award. Thank you Laura, Chris, JJ, Mark, and the rest of the crew that support this club, teach us, and encourage us to be active in motorsports. Maybe this will help validate our existence to the university!

For all you current students... if you'd like to learn about driving pace, working the corners (get your mind out of the gutter), tech, registration, grid, timing and scoring, instructing etc... YouÔÇÖll have to work to get there, but IÔÇÖm sure there is a spot for you.

Really, congrats to all of MM. It was a well deserved award for the club as a whole to receive worker of the year. I was talking with JJ and Chris about this before the announcement, and they both agreed, NASA wouldn't be where it is today without the help of MM. That first event we showed up to they covered every flag station at VIR just using MM workers. Since then those members as well as new members have become a rather integral part of NASA-MA. I'm sure I'm missing some here, and I apologize in advance, but from MM you've got the following:

Chiefs:
Kaan, Me

Regular Workers:
Jess, Rex, Julie, Dave, Lindsey, Jeff, Sylvia, Pete, Allison

Instructors:
Andy, Brian, Mike, Evan, RJ

Racers:
Chad, RJ, Evan, Gerald

Not to mention all the misc MMers that end up flagging, and the solid HPDE core that shows up.

Truly this is an amazing club, and it's great to see that the current crop of students and officers seem to be just as interested in continuing their involvement with NASA as the founding members.

Here's to many more years to come of NASA and MM.

- Evan - 02-25-2008

congrats to Jeff! The award is well deserved, every time I see him working at the track he has a big grin on his face Smile

- PDenbigh - 02-25-2008

Congrats Guys! That is a greatly deserved award!

- D_Eclipse9916 - 02-25-2008

Congratulations Jeff! You definitely deserve this!

- WRXtranceformed - 02-25-2008

Congrats guys Smile

- Goodspeed - 02-25-2008

Congrats to everyone and the club! The plaque will be presented at the next meeting to all the current students to show solid proof of what this club is about and its achievements, and then it'll be displayed in the university trophy case to show our achievements to the entire community.

We have a lot of current students committed to attending the March VIR event, and I know of several others such as myself and Justin who will be working that event!

Laura, it was nice meeting you, I know we were both busy and couldn't really sit down and chat but I'll be getting in touch with you soon about MM working the March event!

- Maengelito - 02-25-2008

congrats to Jeff for the Dodge Spirit, er, just spirit award and congrats to Andy for getting his instructor certification! Congrats to all those in MM who have come out to work and give MM a great name to those in the club racing world.

- ScottyB - 02-25-2008

Email Laura at laura@nasaracing.net to get ahold of her. She rarely posts here because she's so freakin busy.

I'm really excited that you all want to work the March event. Its gonna be awesome.

- Hunter - 02-25-2008

Wow, congrats Jeff and everyone else!

I had no idea how much work you were doing with NASA, because I've only been to two NASA events in the last 2 years. It made me happy to see the picture of the 300 pace car this weekend with Jeff driving, Rex navigating, and a pack of spec e30s in tow.

Again, congratulations to everyone that's been out at track days, because you work hard and its very appreciated. I haven't seen most of you in a while, but I hope to see you at the track after I graduate this spring.

VIVA LA NASA!

I'd also like to point out that there were apparently 28 people at outback saturday night. 28 people somehow affiliated with MM. What a great turnout we had. Also, too bad you all missed the loaded down Chrystler 300 rolling out of Danville with 6 people singing all the way back to the hotel. It was MM jackassery at its finest.

We were shitfaced in celebration. Long story short: Whoever wasn't there missed one hell of a weekend.

I take back my words of kindness... I hate you guys.

- Jeff - 02-26-2008

Ahh yes, the 340hp drunk bus back to the Best Western. Good times had by all. I had a really good weekend (as always) thanks for all the kind words everyone! Sylvia and I both really love working with NASA and are always up for doing something different! I hope my next regular gig is Pace 3, along with announcer. The pace car fleet needs more big ballin' bling out there!

- Kaan - 02-27-2008

I'd like to actually thank NASA. We may be vital to their operations on the weekends, but you have to remember where it all started. They trusted and worked with a bunch of 18-23 year olds. They taught us, gave us responsibility, and allowed us to learn track operations while earning track time. Seven years later we helped NASA-MA become the most popular and growing NASA chapter!

Chris, Laura, JJ, Mark, and the rest of the NASA family, thanks for allowing a bunch of "kids" to expand their motorsports dreams!
