WTB Toyota Previa - BLINGMW - 02-11-2008 Don't laugh, just help me find one dammit. I'm 99% sure it'll make a good "get-my-bike-to-the-track" vehicle. I'm hitting craigslist/autotrader/ebay daily, but if you know of another one out there FS, hit me up. AWD required, supercharger preferred ('94-'95 it was an option, '96-'97 all had it), some body damage and/or abused interior ok. Preferable even! - Mike - 02-11-2008 fuck yeah! my parents used to have one... awesome van. in fact, i've been thinking of buying a nice example for my mom since she's hated every car she's owned since it was wrecked by some whore on a cellphone. edit: the base engine can hit 100! why do you need more? ![]() - Evan - 02-11-2008 stupidcharged? no shit. no idea they had b00st - JohnC - 02-11-2008 What's the model designation for AWD? Is it a Previa SC All-trac or something? - BLINGMW - 02-11-2008 Mike Wrote:fuck yeah! my parents used to have one... awesome van. in fact, i've been thinking of buying a nice example for my mom since she's hated every car she's owned since it was wrecked by some whore on a cellphone.haha, well there IS a really nice one with only 75k miles on it at a Duncan in Christiansburg, but it's not AWD and they want $52XX for it. I'll bring it to ya! Evan Wrote:stupidcharged? no shit. no idea they had b00stI know right? They kind of had too to keep up with the market because there's no room for a 6cyl under the damn driver seat. But hey, I'll just tell people I have a boosted, mid-engine vehicle, then they can use their imagination and I don't have to tell them it's a minivan. JohnC Wrote:What's the model designation for AWD? I fully expect it to look like this when you're finished: ![]() - drivesideways46 - 02-11-2008 Here's one in Rocky Mount, NC: http://raleigh.craigslist.org/car/568584767.html It's a 1997, so it has AWD and the SC...but he doesn't list the actual mileage, he just says it's high due to all the highway driving he does. - Mike - 02-11-2008 it is the estima in japanland. ![]() - ViPER1313 - 02-11-2008 Why not get an AWD or RWD Chevy Astro?? Finding parts for a Previa is going to be impossible. Even with the SC they only make 160hp..... - Mike - 02-11-2008 ViPER1313 Wrote:Why not get an AWD or RWD Chevy Astro?? Finding parts for a Previa is going to be impossible. Even with the SC they only make 160hp..... 1. More powerful (190 vs 160hp) 2. More practical for hauling and towing (has a real frame, not a unibody) 3. Just as reliable (4.3l is as solid as they come.) 4. Easy to find cheap (3.7 million units sold.) 5. AWD like the Previa. 6. Not ugly as sin. And I always though WTB meant Wasted Titty Bar - thanks for setting me straight. - Mike - 02-11-2008 mmm wasted titty bar! i know all about how awesome astros are. shit, jeff bagwell was one! AWESOME! you forgot to mention that the astro has torque. - BLINGMW - 02-11-2008 drivesideways46 Wrote:Here's one in Rocky Mount, NC: yeah.... I actually got him to send some more pics of that one yesterday... and while it's pretty much what I'm looking for, it has 285k miles on it. :| I'm calling him tonight anyway, but I doubt I'll go for it. don't worry, I also very much considered the astro/safari and it is my 2nd choice. Finding them is easier too. My dad has one, it's a great vehicle for the job. There's at least 3 reasons why I prefer the Previa: slightly better fuel economy smaller (I wanted the smallest thing for the job) doesn't have like solid black circles in consumer reports and isn't known for a weak transmission Sorry, but if I'm going to be looking at 10yr old, 150k+ mile vehicles, I'd prefer a Toyota over anything American. My guess? There's not a lot of astro/safaris out there with 285k on them and running great on original drivetrain. :dunno: FWIW, if I planned on really towing anything with it, I'd suck it up and go with the Safari. Besides, again: mid-engine with boost. - HAULN-SS - 02-11-2008 My cousins astr0 has 250k on it, all original AFAIK. He's done regular maintenance of course though (mechanic by trade) - ViPER1313 - 02-11-2008 http://www.problemcarswanted.com/buy/view/334 - BLINGMW - 02-11-2008 ViPER1313 Wrote:http://www.problemcarswanted.com/buy/view/334hmmm... never seen that site before.... - NTIman - 02-12-2008 Just make sure the supercharger isn't shot when you get it. Otherwise it'll run like poop, and cost out the ass to fix. Check engine lights aren't too uncommon, usually due to the cylinder walls getting warn down on the side closest to the ground (since the engine sits sideways) but you can pull out the wire to the knock sensor right at the ECU under the seat, and that'll put a few degrees to timing back in, but you'll still have a CEL. - BLINGMW - 02-13-2008 NTIman Wrote:Just make sure the supercharger isn't shot when you get it. yeah.... I kind of wonder how I'm going to be able to figure that out :dunno: - Jeff - 02-13-2008 Edit - I don't care what Mike says about WTB. Toyota = fails with minivans. You can't go wrong with the original when it comes to minivans. What is the fuel economy on one of those things? w/ boost I average 22 with a mix of city/hwy with modifications. Stock I was like 26mpg. It has your size requirement covered. And if you don't F around with it the 2.5L/Auto combo is reliable as they come. Mine just fails me because I drive like a moron and the vehicle is modified. However, with mopar vans you must pick your poison... Boost/SWB... ![]() or AWD/LWB... (Always a 3.3L V6/auto, another good combo. Not the 3.0L mitsu engine.) ![]() They even have you covered after you track your bike! ![]() - BLINGMW - 02-13-2008 ok, I'll hear you out, I didn't really consider the Caravan. Spending a few minutes on Edmunds.com though, I'm not seeing much in the '94-'00 range (and I say '94 because I don't want to fool with R12 A/C) that is both AWD and fits my budget ($3k). The Grand Caravan seems to be the only choice, and it's both bigger and more expensive. A bike really fits in yours though (ie, 42 inch tall rear opening and ~84 inches of length?) :?: BTW, we really don't have to argue on looks, as that's all subjective. And, it's really not a big concerrn for me. If I was trying to look cool.... I probably wouldn't be buying a minivan. FWIW, I think the Previa looks a whole lot better than that Rumpo black box you have pictured there. ![]() *edit* ok, I see you took your comments out about the interior and such-- yeah, it looks like they were trying too hard to make it look futuristic, and now it's dated, but it's well put together and quite functional. And yes, I've driven two of them now. |
