Any tips on fixing this Kenwood deck? - BLINGMW - 01-13-2008 So I'm trying to sell my car, and last week the aftermarket Kenwood deck stops working. It's got this goofy motorized flip down face thing that slides out even further to insert/eject a CD. It's been working great, but sure enough, just as I'm trying to sell the car, it breaks. ![]() I'm rocking out, I stop to get gas, I get back in, start it up, and the deck kind of twitches in/out and won't power on. It's out in the position that it normally works in (like the pic), and when I cycle power, it just does this twitch. So it's obviously getting power, and I've tried pressing all the buttons, kind of forced it further in/out, and nothing. Just a twitch. I can't even get my CD out. The troubleshooting stuff from Kenwood's website was worthless.... any ideas? - HAULN-SS - 01-13-2008 had this problem with a deck once..it was shot...you might as well go buy a cheapo to put in it Re: Any tips on fixing this Kenwood deck? - ViPER1313 - 01-14-2008 BLINGMW Wrote:any ideas?Trade for a 94 SHO - it's CD player works great  - Maengelito - 01-14-2008 i had a kenwood deck where the face stopped working twice. the first time it was fixed under warranty, but the next time it was no longer covered. i think kenwood just makes crappy cd players. you can get one used from crutchfield retail places for super cheap or jeff's probably got one lying around - BLINGMW - 01-14-2008 yeah, I was just waiting for this thing to break. What a dumb ass idea. I'm sure the kids love 'em, but who the hell came up with this motorized face thing?! You FAIL. - Jeff - 01-15-2008 buy a Pioneer or an Alpine is how you fix a Kenwood deck. - BLINGMW - 01-23-2008 Damn thing, I took it out, worked the motors a bit, pressed this reset button a dozen times, and I actually got it to work! Worked great. Got my CD back, put another one in, everything worked like normal. Turned car off, it retracted like normal again, put it back in the dash. Powered back on and it's back to broken. Frustrating, it has to be something so simple, I just don't know where it is. :? I know, not interesting.
- Jeff - 01-23-2008 its probably in the ribbon strip between the face and the deck. - BLINGMW - 01-24-2008 you know, I read that was a problem, maybe I'll crack the thing apart tomorrow to see what there is to see. :dunno: It's not like I can make it any worse! - Maengelito - 01-24-2008 the first time i got mine repaired under warranty, they replaced the ribbon strip. the second time it broke, i bought a new ribbon strip and replaced it myself but it still didnt work, so i trashed it - HaPpYfAcE - 01-31-2008 i recall hearing about these types of kenwood decks having lots of issues. it's just the motorized face portion...either the motor or the ribbon will go bad. they've stopped making them, afaik. |
