Your MotoArt: Furniture, Useful Home Items, etc. - Ginger - 12-12-2007

So, every once in a while I get the urge to make somtehing for the house from my moto-bin. I run into parts I'll never need and can't sell for beans, or want to make something useful out of something I've blown up, bent, broken, burned, crashed, dropped, exploded, hit, or otherwise rendered useless. I don't have much right now - I've been trying to think of how to make a good looking coffee table using spare tires - but I had a turbocharger laying around and I was going to use it as a toothbrush holder, but Rex convinced me a pencil holder would be more better:

As if the people at work don't already think I have a problem.

I know JayRay's had the VW Grill Lamp and I seem to remember Blair making something cool (was it a table?). What've junk did you have that you brought back to life?

- Maengelito - 12-12-2007

i used to have an exhaust manifold as a footrest and i currently use a ground control spring as a toothbrush holder. i think we had a thread about car parts as furniture earlier

- Ginger - 12-12-2007

If anybody can find the old thread, please post it. I looked a little, but all I was able to find was Blair's table:

And one Chapin posted of one he found on t3h interwebs:

Also - I'd like to include any 'elegant' technology solutions you feel you might have. Whether it's out-in-the-open tech that suits its environment well, or stuff you couldn't make look good, but hid well and retained it's effectiveness.

Blair's table kicks so much ass.

i have some ideas in waiting:

- valve cover flipped over (oil cap hole closed up), with legs added to make a serving peice for candy or maybe a catch-all for random junk like screws/bolts/change in the garage

- i'm going to find a way to make coasters out of old pistons. i think i'll flip them upside down and grind out the underside of the piston to accept the bottom of a cup. then put a little felt on the top of the piston to keep furniture from getting torn up. might make a neat little change holder too.

- Ginger - 12-12-2007

Those are pretty cool... an upside down valve cover would make a cool center piece for a table. RJ and I have talked about the pistons before, too, but I don't really have any spares Wink

If anybody else has any ideas, throw them out there. The big ends of Con-Rods might fit solo cups...

Old pistons as ashtrays, had a picture but can't find it anymore.

i'll give you an old 1.8T piston if you want to try something on it. the catch is that it's still attached to the rod Tongue

- .RJ - 12-12-2007

*ahem* it was not leaking! I at least had it hot tanked before I put it on the table

- mrbaggio - 12-12-2007

There is zippy chance i would ever play $50 for a pen holder.

- BLAIR - 12-12-2007
